I prefer a dark skin, day or night. I have used YAPS, Luminous Dark, and Liv Dark as all three have some different looks you can create. YAPS has the most customizable interface while the other two offer some distinctly unique graphic elements.

I was wondering why nobody here shows their skins, so I'd like to make a start and present the configurations I've created:

YAPS is something of a Swiss Army Knife toolkit, it has more customising options than you can shake a stick at, but you need to do a lot of work to get to grips with it. Some of the others are a bit more plug-and-play and have their own style and feel.

I have several skins, and change them based on my “flavour of the day” feeling. Plus I wanted to support all of the skin devs for their efforts.

Using the same song for reference, these are the four I use these days. Occasionally I’ll check the default skins just to see new features. And some of the earlier skins are not well supported and those devs have dropped off from here.

Here is an example of YAPS, gradient background, determined by the user instead of selecting from predefined options

I don't want to sound rude, but this looks really bad. I appreciate the customizability of your skin, but imho it needs a good designer.

@heidl I think the point of that screenshot from @flyingdutchman (the dev of YAPS) was to show just how much can be changed by that skin. Without showing dramatic changes like this, it may not be obvious which elements have been changed. If you look at my previous post, the first image is using YAPS, and is the cleanest of the four skins I use in this case. It is all in how you want to make changes. No other skin has as much direct and precise control as YAPS, but this means it requires the most work to fully tune every element.

@heidl yes, You are the designer, my skin enables the user to be as creative as they can be.

as @MotleyG points out "No other skin has as much direct and precise control as YAPS, but this means it requires the most work to fully tune every element"

So it does take some (or considerable) effort to create something you like.

I use YAPS, but quite honestly I have to admit that I don't use very much of what Theo has spent so much time developing. I use it more to fine-tune the interface and move things to where I want them to be, with simple buttons and a fairly muted colour palette on an album-art based burred background. But that's rather the point of YAPS. I described it as a Swiss Army Knife of skins, which is really what it is - it doesn't present you with one new finished and polished interface, but a set of tools to build your own look.
