How do I disable crossfade and only have fade-out?

I just downloaded the app but can't seem to figure out how to have regular fade-out without crossfade. I set up the crossfade to 2000 ms and I like the fade-out it gives when I skip songs. But I don't like having the next song play over the outgoing song and the fading in it does.

Basically I'd like to have the current song fade-out over two seconds when I skip and the next song start without any fade-in and without playing over the previous song.

You can't at present. You can set a separate fade-out mode for when you stop/pause playback, but when PA is transitioning into another track then that always uses the full cross-fade setting (if enabled) for both the in and out points.

Updating the crossfade options has been a fairly regularly requested feature for a while now, see a few other recent threads for further thoughts on the matter:

I'll move this thread to Feature Requests.

Thanks for replying Andre! Didn't realize it was a much-requested feature. It's a shame they don't have it. I'm on the trial and was ready to pay for the full-version since it had all the fancy fade settings. Until I found out it didn't have what I needed :(

@Jarad so do you want the previous track to fade out for xx milliseconds, then new track started at full volume? Or should be there some crossing, when new song starts immediately, but previous fades out? As delaying start of the next song is not desirable (a lot is optimized in Poweramp to start playback asap).

I think you could just provide seperate sliders for fade out and fade in length, and you'll address everyone's requests.

Personally I'd suggest something like the way the old Winamp SqrSoft Advanced Cross Fading plugin used to work, which included a gapkiller/fade dB threshold for the ending of the first track ("fall trigger level") and a starting threshold dB level ("raise trigger level") for the second track to create a common crossover point that works for both songs. That way, any song which ends abruptly (e.g. a final lyric with no fading, or on a drum-beat) would not get faded out at all, and also any song that starts with an instant attack (e.g. a guitar chord) would not get faded in. But songs that have gentle starts or finishes would get crossfaded by a configurable fade-in and fade-out period.

So here, where the first track ends abruptly and the second one also starts abruptly, the crossover point linking the two tracks (the moment when one falls to below -30db and the other gets up to -20dB) is almost instant, and there is effectively no fading:

Whereas if the same falling dB threshold occurs part way into a slow fade out, and it links into a slow fade in on the other track, the crossover point is much further into both tracks and you hear quite a bit of crossfading:

Yep I want it to fade out and the next one starts immediately after it fades out without any fade-in. This way there is no delay in between the two songs, but even if there is a delay, I wouldn't mind that. @superluig164 summarized the request pretty well.

I still feel it ought to be possible to account for tracks which start suddenly - as requested here, which is probably most common but universal - and also tracks which end abruptly too (such as a final drumbeat or vocal rather than fading out). You don't want to fade out a song which ends on a final sung word for example.

If this was controlled by and 'in' and 'out' dB threshold, simply adjusting the 'in' value to an extremely low setting would have exactly the effect requested here.

@Jarad if the next track starts after fade, this introduces delay in track changes - not desirable.

Currently Poweramp starts songs ASAP, thus if we remove the fade in, we’ll get the previous song fading out while the next song already started full volume.

I think that's rather the point isn't it? There's not much point fading the old song down to complete silence and only then starting the new one at full volume - that's basically like turning crossfade off completely for most songs that have their own fadeout anyway.
