Option to force landscape player layout on tablets and folding phones.

Recommended Posts

I have a galaxy z fold 2 and I have a problem with the app when I use it in landscape mode when the phone is folded open. For some reason Poweramp does not use the landscape player layout that is uses on a regular phone. On my folding phone the album art is rectangular and cut off. I saw that some other users also had this problem with this other folding phones and tablets. This also happens on the default skin of Poweramp. I am pretty sure that this is due to the aspect ratio of the screen.

This only happens when the phone is in landscape mode when the phone is folded open. When the phone is folded closed It looks like how it is suppose to look in landscape mode.

I once had Poweramp bug out and it showed me the layout of the bottom picture on the bigger screen of the phone, but I could never replicate the bug. I was wondering if you could add an option in the settings to force the phone to use the landscape layout, when it is in landscape orientation.

Yes, it would be due to the aspect ratio of the screen. PA uses its vertical layout by default, unless a screen ratio is properly landscape, and I guess 2208 x 1768 is not wide enough to be registered as fully landscape. I'm sure that could be accommodated for though.

In the meantime, you can force the mode via PA Settings > Look and Feel > Screen Orientation.

This option only forces power amp to use the default landscape orientation of the phone, it does nothing to fix the layout issue. I'm asking for an option to force Poweramp to use the other landscape layout.

I think this was already acknowledged by @andrewilley in the previous post. He simply provided an alternative option for now. There is no guarantee that the dev will make this tweak for a limited number of devices any time soon.

What "other landscape layout" are you referring to here? As far as I'm aware, there are only two layouts in Poweramp - Portrait or Landscape, both of which you can force manually via Settings if you wish. There is no "other" landscape mode.

There have been some Feature Requests for a dual-pane landscape option for larger tablets/etc, where the left-half of the screen would be the player screen (with cover artwork and controls) and the right-half would allow access to the current Library view for selecting new songs/etc. Is that idea perhaps what you were referring to?

Both of the pictures that I showed on top are in Landscape. The one I want, is the one on the bottom, where the full album art is on the left side and the player controls are on the right side. This is what the landscape orientation is suppose to look like, but on phones and tablet with a screen ratio that is closer to 4:3, the landscape orientation looks like it does in the first picture. I want an option to force Poweramp to use the layout on the bottom picture.

@andrewilleyThis is what it looks like in landscape mode using the default skin. I have tried both default skin and many 3rd party skins, this is a universal problem with Poweramp for screens that are closer to 4:3. Instead of using the correct landscape layout, Poweramp decides to use an alternate version of the portrait layout, where the album art is rectangle and cutoff.
