Russ Kinter
Hi, This problem is a weird one because it's isolated to just one recording in various .wav files, all of which have the same problem of absolutely no volume using Poweramp - just dead silence. To start with, I have two original sources of the problem recording. One is the original published CD and the other is a .wav file download from the same publisher. Both the CD and download versions play fine on both a CD player and a PC Windows Media player respectively. When I tried playing the download version on my Android Poweramp, there wasn't any volume for that particular file. So I pulled the tracks off the CD to a PC using Goldwave. I've done this many many times with other CD albums and they have all successfully played using Poweramp, but not this time. There STILL wasn't any volume! Now it gets really bizarre. I then made an abbreviated test track by recording the CD from the CD player connected to the computer via line-in. I figured the music would then be getting a fresh new file without the error causing the volume problem in Poweramp. I was wrong. Even though the new test file played fine on the Windows Media player, it STILL didn't have any volume when played using Poweramp. Any ideas? Sacrifice a chicken? Thanks! andrewilley
I think an upload of the problem file would be useful. Or a shorter rip as WAVs can get a bit big. Andre Quote Translate Revert translation? MotleyG
Just now, Russ Kinter said: Even the test wav file is 49 MB, but I'll upload a shorter one tomorrow. Thanks! Another test you can try is to convert this file on your PC from wav to another format or two, like FLAC and mp3. Then try those files in Poweramp. If they work, you know audio exists and the file has an issue. If there is no audio in PA with those other formats, the problem is in the original file or how it is being formatted while still on your computer. Quote Translate Revert translation? andrewilley
Agreed. WAV is a particularly bad choice for use on phones anyway. FLAC will still give you lossless results but with much smaller file sizes. Andre Hi, Here's a reduced file. If it plays for you, you'll hear beating gongs. I appreciate your help and replies, but all other .wav files created on the PC have played fine on my phone via Poweramp. There's no doubt in my mind there's a problem with the original files from the publisher, but for that problem to be inherited on the published CD and then a recording of the CD to computer via the inline port on the sound card is to me next to incredible. The uploaded file plays fine on this forum page. It's the phone that's the problem. I will try the Flac format though. Thanks! Russ Kinter Co-Ho Test2.wav Quote Translate Revert translation? Russ Kinter
Hi, Thanks for testing it out, but the file still doesn't have sound on my Android 8.1 The "no sound" problem also happens with Samsung Music Player, so the phone itself is the issue. It's one of the strangest bugs I've encountered, given that the file is a fresh recording to circumvent any errors in the original file. Thanks again! Russ Kinter Quote Translate Revert translation? Russ Kinter
Ok, well here's the punch line and don't laugh too hard. The tracks (all of them) have sound through Bluetooth or the 3.5 jack, but NOT the phone's speaker. Any ideas why this happens? Thanks! Quote Translate Revert translation? andrewilley
Is there a phase issue here? If the tracks have been recorded out of phase then summing them into mono could cause them to cancel each side out... [Edit] I just tested it, and yes that seems to be the problem. It seems to be a mono recording, but the Left and Right channels have been recorded 180-degrees out of phase. Try listening to it normally, and then press the Mono button in the Equalizer... Andre Quote Translate Revert translation?
