Playback in Android Auto starts automatically though not activated

As of today, when connecting to Android auto (via USB), playback starts automatically, although this option is not activated. Neither in Poweramp nor in Android auto.
What could be the reason for this? How can I switch this off?

Usually this is due to the explicit Play command (often multiples of them) sent to the player and player can’t just ignore it. You can check the exact commands received by Poweramp via “Last processed commands” (search in the settings). Thanks!

Also check that you don't have any of the auto-resume features enabled in the separate Poweramp Equalizer app (if you have it) as that will kick in even if the EQ mode is disabled.

Thank you for your answers.
Last processed commands is empty. And I have not installed the separate eq app.
I just noticed that Poweramp also starts when I start Bluetooth on my system at home. But this only happens when the Poweramp app is open. If it is not open, playback does not start automatically, even if a widget for the app is placed on the homescreen.

Have there been any updates to your head-unit, or AndroidAuto on your phone, or other Android core features? Otherwise it's hard to say why this has suddenly started happening now if it was OK previously.
