That works for artists. Whether it works for other categories, I don't know. It took some bug-reporting and feature-requesting to enable that much. Go to the library view for that artist, tap on 'All Artist Songs', then tap on the Shuffle icon at the top of the resulting list. If you miss out the 'All Artist Songs' step, then you'll still get the whole catalogue by that artist played, but grouped as shuffled album at time.
