Bluetooth keeps disconnecting when using Android auto, when Poweramp is set as the music player

I am using a wired usb connection to my car with a Bluetooth connection for calls.

When Poweramp is set as the Android auto default music player, even if I am not playing any music, Bluetooth constantly disconnects then reconnects approximately every 20-30 seconds. If I change to another music player the problem stops.

I am running the latest version of Android auto, last updated 23 April.
