Hey, had a search about in the forum and this seems like the closest match to the issue I'm having getting PA to work the way that I want.

I'm in the same boat as taxen23 was in that I can follow what you're saying to do in the UI with regard to changing the artwork, but there's no 3 dots menu to access any further options. All I get is the ability to select an image online or a local image. (The latter which I don't have and don't really want to have to go downloading / extracting duplicate copies of album art that I already have embedded)

I don't know whether its a recent Android change which restricts access to the cached artwork files mentioned earlier in this thread, but that option certainly doesn't seem available to me.

All I want to achieve is the ability to choose an artist image (visible in artist and album artist lists) from the album covers which are embedded in the .mp3 files.

Typically I just want to be able to set the album artists' earliest album as their artist image as this will be the most memorable for me to allow for quick browsing.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Afaik, there is no way to manually choose a track's embedded album art as the artist image.

Fair enough. I didn’t know if that was part of helping identify the issue, which is that it sounds bad. If it sounds great, I’m not too concerned about the numbers.

I can understand it might be frustrating that a $1500 DAP and $1500 "sounds bad" you're kind of on an island where likely no one is going to have your setup 1:1 to troubleshoot.

We here just try to keep folks away from overzealously chasing numbers and stats. If you're not using any EQ/DSP, the precision/sampling rate shouldn't really factor in much anyways (384kHz vs 768kHz).

In contrast to UAPP and Neutron, Poweramp has a set output rate that everything must go up to before it reaches your device's DAC. If you have enabled SoX resampler in Poweramp, that process is going to be as transparent (or error free) as you can get. If your library is mostly 44.1kHz content and assorted DSD files, setting an output rate inline with those (44.1kHz, 88.2kHz, 176.4kHz, 352.8kHz) is appropriate. I DO NOT THINK SAMPLE RATE HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR BAD SOUND ISSUE. THIS IS JUST "THE MORE YOU KNOW".

See the above feature voting request that would bring automatic sample rate switching to Poweramp.

  3. Any luck with other output methods?

The audio output menus at first can seam a little convoluted. You'll see a list of the output methods (opensl, audiotrack, hi-res, aaudio, and chromecast). Whichever method you select, you then see a list of all the output devices, with toggle switches and a settings gear next to each. Clicking the settings gear gets you to where you can set (or have Poweramp define) the output bit depth and sample rate.

At the moment, you don't have any forced resampling happening, which for 44.1 kHz content is a good sign. If you were stuck to using opensl output (which hopefully you won't have to be), from the screenshots alone I don't see any settings that would cause issue just yet.

Is everything ok with the Poweramp developer? the last update was last year, I'm getting worried now

Like 4 months ago the app was updated. The developer last visited the forum a week ago. Reading the tea leaves, it's none of my business.

As a follow-up to this - and in the "there's always something new to learn" department - I just accidentally discovered that there is already a function to do pretty much what you asked.

If you long-press on the mini-player at the bottom of any library list view, you will be taken straight to the currently playing song.

    Andre

    Neat! Snappy, too.

It does not (yet? 😉) snap to where the currently playing song resides in the category being viewed by user at that moment, just to what category it is being played from.

There are of course situations where currently playing song may not reside in the library category user is viewing at that moment, such as when limited by insufficient metadata tags, or when in playlists (song may not be in playlists at all, or may be in multiple playlists), among other situations (my imagination falls short).

  6. > And I have my tags done thoroughly.

Well I'd say that's certainly up for debate!

No track number#, album name, or album artist, in a folder view nested in '2020' year category, that is an unknown album, containing one song (but also dozens), by 50 cent..

I don't think thorough means what you think it means.

if i uninstall and reinstall what things can i backup and what things do i loose?

and i just want to install the stable version because of a bug with the skin luminous dark where the simple seekbar it's out of place.

do you know when the next update will be? just curious

When exporting settings/data it tells you what will/won't be compatible with older builds.

I have build 976 on Android 12 and I load full albums into folders.  When Poweramp searches for album art, it applies it automatically to all the songs except, in several cases, not to the first song.  It doesn't happen every time but often.  When it happens, it's always the first track.  If I try to manually apply the art, it doesn't show any art available.   Does this happen for anyone else and is there anything I can do?

A song appearing with no album art and unknown tags is most significant.

Is it possible to mass tag files? we can only do piece by piece, when the name of the artist or album is not correct, it is very (too) long

It's for good reason- if there was an error or crash, having a write operation mess up your whole library would be an even longer affair.

Thank you. I'm trying to do it as you say, but since I don't have much knowledge, can you please share or suggest an example equalizer setting for reference? I want a clean, clear and slightly loud sound. And thank you in advance. :)

Try the built-in presets (bass & treble is an easy one with just a lowpass and highpass filter). Filter by built-in and parametric, or graphic, whichever you are more comfortable adjusting.

    Keep it simple.

I understood thank you.  So there is no situation that directly negatively affects me and my mp3 player, right?

If you take a look at the feature requests voting section, a handful are of a similar focus (UI changes, networked sources, or audio engine / effect related).

These future upgrade packages may have related features bundled together. But different ones have different time investments required for the sole developer (Max) to implement.

But no, nothing that exists in the app right now is going to suddenly disappear or become paywalled.

If some function isn't in the app right now, and that omission is a deal-breaker for you, chances are down the road you might need to make some one-time "a la carte" payment to get that feature.

I don't follow you here. Are your headphones or external speakers not ideal for a wider variety of music styles? Or are you suggesting that your personal preference for each genre requires you to make these adjustments each time? Poweramp is designed to be as transparent as possible so that the end result is as close to the original as possible.

Schizo-poster (or horrible auto-translation?) replying to themselves unprovoked, never fails to entertain.
