White noise in songs is distorted with bass boost

Whenever I'm boosting bass frequencies using the app (build 940 play), some high pitched sounds like white noise in songs get extremely distorted even if I have a limiter and preamp set to -6 db. Is there a reason for this?

Do you have any other functions with boost enabled? Replaygain, or others can add boost that would increase distortion when exceeding the maximum levels that the DAC or amplifier can manage.

Is this using the device speaker, wired headphones, USB output, or Bluetooth?
