Perhaps it could become more subtle in the menus, like a very very light colour, and only the bottom bar stays saturated.

I've made a very crude mockup of how it might look. Obviously there would be more variation in the colours for different elements, but I did this in like 30 seconds with the paint bucket tool, and admittedly this album art doesn't have the greatest colour choice. However, the concept is there. I think the background in the light theme would need to be made significantly less saturated than you can get away with in the dark theme.
-
I would propose the colours stay the same outside the now playing screen, including the background of the whole screen and elements and buttons and such. Everything.

Yeah yeah absolutely, I am not saying we shouldn't get a modular system - I'm just saying I don't expect it super soon, and I think it would be easier for max to drop in a couple extra presets while he works on the custom thing.

@superluig164 the visualization background is required to be black, also, colors they visualize are not limited or controlled by player, so it will work well only either with pre-selected well-behaving visualization presets and may be a bit better with the Dark skin
Yes, I meant just a semi-transparent white overlay over the visualization but under the menu items, just to improve readability.

Defaults, I auto swap between light and dark.

While that sounds awesome, I imagine that will take a bit longer to implement than what I'm asking for, which I think would be a good interim solution, as there are a lot of options already. Additionally, I think it should still be one of the default options alongside a custom setup, since it's a pretty common distinction to make.

Unfortunately I keep forgetting to grab a screenshot, but sometimes (not sure the exact circumstances) when I open the app while playing music, the extra metadata section is rendered blank (just the background shape shows) until I long press on it, and after closing the dialog it comes back. As soon as I grab a screenshot I'll reply to this post with it.

Currently, the sort by artist option sorts by artist > album > title. I would like options to choose between artist > title and artist > album > track #. I think both are better than trying to lump them into one option, as I imagine people who like sorting by artist > album also prefer track numbers, whereas people who like sorting by artist > title want to prioritize individual tracks.
Perhaps all 3 could be made available as options, if you so choose.

I guess that's the big "thing" that would have to be implemented for this feature to work. Still think it would be super cool though. And it would open up other possibilities for skinning as well.

To expand, here is how I can imagine this working with the default themes:
For a given songs art, we choose a "light" colour (similar to what Retro Music Player chooses for text) and a "dark" colour (similar to what Retro Music Player chooses for the background.). If the user is using the dark theme, we use the dark colour as the background, and the light colour for text, icons, etc. If the user is using the light theme, swap them. This allows for day/night flipping alongside this option.
For 3rd party skins, we could just provide these dark and light colours as variables and let the developer use them as they wish.
When the song changes the colours smoothly fade into the next song's colours. No matter where you are in the UI.
If music pauses, fade back to the standard dark grey/white.
If the user chooses so, fade back to the standard dark grey/white whenever the user exits the "now playing" view.
I'm not sure how easy it is for colours to fade this way in the current implementation of Poweramp's theming engine, but I think it would be really sweet addition if implementated this way.

@Pila19 what UI elements do you want to colorize this way? Please note that Poweramp main screen (big cover and buttons) is the same list from the library as any other, so these colors somehow should continue in lists or they should animate to default. Also background is already a blurred saturated image based on cover, so buttons and text generally can’t be the same colors.
I think it would actually be super cool if the whole app got colored based on the playing song, almost like a personalized theme. Perhaps skins can use the chosen colours as accents as well if they like, and if the feature is developed such that the colour can be updated live (such as if the song changes or pauses) I don't assume it would be difficult to provide a global option to revert those colours to default when not in the "now playing" view, regardless of the skin being used.

Stop it, I can only get so erect.

Another suggestion to piggy back this, would we be able to change the control mode per device as well? Like whether or not to use "single press" mode or to detect double and triple presses as well.

Thanks Max. Appreciate it.

I have an Android Head Unit and I purchased Poweramp for it.
I know the purchase is tied to my Google account. However, I use a different Google account on my head unit than on my phone, for security purposes.
Does the Poweramp licensing account for this possibility?
I'll purchase another license if it's not possible, but I thought it would be a reasonable thing for people with an Android Head Unit to have a separate account. I was thinking/hoping that the licensing would account for this.
So, does the licensing account for this?
It's not possible, but regardless, what security advantage do you get from using a different account in your own car?

@superluig164 I identified issue with the presets which were previously restored from old settings backup. Such presets will fail during update to Poweramp build 909+.
The next 911 beta will handle such presets better, but they should be recovered by restoring that old backup again.
I don't remember restoring a backup, it must have been a long time ago, and I also lost presets which changed since any backups. I guess it's a lesson to make backups, but this is a big deal for me. Hopefully next time it won't slip through the cracks.

Thought I was the only one.
Interestingly some of my presets are still there, like 4 of them. But I had a lot more. Additionally I had deleted all the default included presets but they were restored.

@superluig164 the issue with the device-assigned preset being reset to user selected preset is fixed for the next build. As for user presets/default presets - the graphic presets are not touched, so I assume you're in parametric mode - there are no graphic presets. Switch back to graphic mode to get your old presets. Thanks!
This is incorrect. I have not switched, and I even tried to switch and switch back. A number of my presets are lost and I have no way to get them back. I can even see on a few Bluetooth devices where the assigned preset was lost, it loads a flat preset with the name <default preset>. This is a bug. Please don't brush me off. How can I fix this?
-
I just noticed today that all my EQ stuff is messed up. I've lost a number of presets, all the default presets came back, and also, the EQ now resets after every song to flat. If I change it, it resets itself again when the song changes, instead of just hanging on to that temporary setting until I select another preset. What the heck happened? And why did half my presets get deleted?

Even if you guys don't like this behaviour (I don't either) I see no issue with options. Options please everyone. Why not just provide options? Then everyone can fine-tune their experience the way they like it.

I finally remembered to get a screenshot of it. I set it usually to next track so maybe is had something to do with that.
