Could use a little help w/ improving audio quality

Hey.

 

First off: what the hell is Stereo X, and properly configured, would it improve "audio quality?". 

Obviously it can't, but you know what I mean.

 

I sat with the damn thing for 2 hours, trying to improve the sound, and failed.

 

I listen to metal, rock, alternative stuff - Mudvayne, Tool, Hurt, PoTF etc (some kind of reference).

 

Phone: HTC One

In-ear phones: Shure SE-535

 

I officially gave up on the thing, but I still use it.

Always with a flat EQ (since all the other EQ's suck ass), SRS, the other stuff, bass and treble at about 50%.

I suggest you turn stereo x off by turning the little knob all the way to the left. Do the same with the tone controls. If you set the tone controls at 50 percent you're going to add a lot of bass and treble. I think it is misleading, but that's the way it works.
