You can view a different Category by long-pressing (or use the theee-dots menu) and selecting, for example,  Album.

    Ah, that works. Many thanks.

I don't think that you can change what happens when you tap the album cover, but you have an option that tapping on the Artist/Album text takes you to the album. "Look and Feel" -> "Player Screen" in the settings.

Andre supplied 'a' solution above but ....... I used to tap an album cover (sorry, album art embedded in the song) and the album would pop up. Maybe it was a hangover ffrom re-installing PA across many ROM revisions using Swift Backup. Not going to lose any sleep over it .... first world problems and all that.

    Thanks again.

  2. This is just a settings issue but I'll be beggered if I can find out which one(s). Just changed phones to an S24 Ultra from a Note 20 Ultra (so Android 13 to 14 as well) and have not rooted it. Having to set PA up from scratch (as well as my other apps!) was more time consuming that the usual 'restore' with Swift Backup but I though best to start afresh. I also didn't want to use the PA backup/restore settings. Anyhow, on the 'old' phone when a track was playing I could press the album art on the screen to bring up a list of tracks on the album that the song being played was from. I almost always have 'shuffle all songs' on as default so this way if I saw a song from a particular album I might think 'I really liked the xyz song from that album I'll play that' I could choose it really easily. I've compared all settings from my old phone andnew and as far as I can see they are identical but this view doesn't come up and it's really frustrating.

Now I realise that the problem lies with me, mostly to do with the fact that once something is set as I like I don't mess about any more so basically forget 'how' to set things up but if anyone could pioiunt me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I did try searching but including things such as 'album' and 'view' obviously brings up a gazillion unrelated hits ...

Oh, and using 981 on both.

    Thanks.

Just to add that the new BT option to ignore commands from a device for a configurable time works for me. Always had PA start to play when I connected to my car (Honda Jazz from 2016) which I didn't/don't want. Now I ignore commands for 5 seconds and all is well. i.e. it only starts to play when I tell it to!

NB: it's a head unit thing, not PA.

Hmmmmm. Update to this issue that I thought was fixed. Seems that 4 times out of 5 it is but there is the odd occasion the 'delay' is ignored. I have it on the maximum of 10 seconds but this doesn't seem long enough. My car HU is an Android 4 based device (no way to upgrade it to a later Android release but the firmware can be upgraded, though not sure if that would solve the problem) and takes ages just to connect. Basically, phone and HU are set to connect automatically but I get in, switch the engine on, put my seatbelt on and place the phone in it's holder and I still have to wait for a BT connection ..... It may not be the delay lenght causing the auto play but that's the mosy likely culprit (for my Honda HU anyway.

    Oh, forgot, using 981.

I get it when I have 'shuffle all songs' selected. If so and I select from the 'artists' list another song, PA reverts to the first one played in the 'shuffle all songs' list. This happens ad infinitum. If I turn all 'shuffles' off I can select what I want. Does this happen for you?

All working now with 979.... 😁

@dvhttn I wish I knew what was causing this for a number of people, I can't get it to happen at all.

    .....

There must the something in common in the settings of the people who are experiencing this, but I can't reproduce it here (testing on Samsung Galaxy A54, Android 14, music in one master folder on an SD Card using regular SAF storage access).

Basically the same as me, but A13 and Note 20 Ultra and just under 14K tracks. BUT ....  just played about and turned OFF 'No Reshuffle For Large Lists' and things now appear to work as before. Why would they change between versions ...? Has this setting just been added?

    1. Given that some people (At least 3 in this thread) can reproduce it and others can not, my best random guess would be either cache or a race condition. Given that I did nuke the application including all data and cache and was still able to reproduce, my next guess would be storage type: my music is on an SD card, would be neat to know if that's the same for all the others who can reproduce, or some other settings  (i18n or so)

Mine is also on an SD Card but I've never had problems like this before .....

    Settings=>Audio=>Crossfade/Fade/Gapless=>Silence Between Tracks=>(set to 0-5000ms)

    Andre

Thanks. I had seen that and tried it but nothing .... had to reset that page to defaults before it would work. Obviously been playing with other settings beforehand that negated the effect somehow ...  oooops!

Easiest way (without a complete reinstall) to wipe PA's settings would be to delete its App Data via your Android device's Settings menu.

That was my first thought but ...... I have 'clear cache' and 'manage storage' - the latter takes me to PA settings to 'manage space'. Which doesn't seem to do the same thing ...

Oh, and I asked because I didn't want to go into each sub-menu to reset. Just reset the lot ..... :-)

@dvhttp, did you need to do something like this?

No. I had turned legacy mode off many moons ago. I also change the ROM on my phone fairly often (and have just changed phones) and restore my apps, including PA, using Swift Backup. I have also, about 6 months ago, 'rationalised' all the folders on my phone that I download (and keep sync'd with) from my PC which means I have one folder at the top level of my SDCard (say called 'MyFiles') and things like mp3 files under that that PA reads and uses. I have done full rescans several times over that period so not sure exactly why mine worked and yours didn't, except that I have been following advice from here for a while.

  11. 1 hour ago, Tana said:

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm afraid it did not help. I also tried the Legacy mode, activated it, The app restarted and no change. It is probable an issue between Android 13 and PA. I hope somebody comes with a solution.

I hope Poweramp developers will give update for compatible with Android 13.

Running absolutely fine on Android 13 here (Galaxy Note 20).

To fix this and remove the cached details, you'll probably need to go one step further than a Full Rescan and force PA back to a completely emptied database. This could be done with a complete app re-install, but it would be less hassle to just remove any ticked entries for your main music locations in the Settings=>Library=>Music Folders list, which will force a Full Rescan without any music thus resulting in a completely empty database. Then re-tick your required folder(s) and the next scan will rebuild the database entries again - including caching artist names. Note: this will erase any ratings, play counts, etc. so it might be worth backing those up first with Settings=>Export Settings/Data.

I'll remember that tip. Worked a treat. 'T.g. Sheppard' has been completely banished ......  :-) One proviso though, I had to choose at least one folder or the rescan wouldn't happen. Chose a folder with no files in it so the scan didn't take long ....

Many thanks for clearing up a very frustrating issue for me (I know, 1st world problems ....) and also the facts about how to really clear the database. You would think that a complete rescan would first initialise the database before re-reading your files ....

In you case (screenshot) I see two different artists. Poweramp doesn't reinterpret tags (except trailing/ending spaces and "the", "a", "an" articles), so space makes these two tags/artists different.

OK. But this is the same tag, just displayed differently. The tag info displayed by the 3-dot menu is correct, just the display on screen is wrong/different. I can see what you're saying about being 2 different artists and I agree thast should be as it is, just that in this one case the tag is 'T.G.' and I see on display 'T.g.' .....

  14. I wrote a new file with no ID3V1 tags - just V2 and same result. I'll attach the two test files - the 'album name' describes the character configuration (the spelling!).

Oh, I also have a couple of KD Lang songs and they seem fine. One was down as 'KD Lang' so I changed it and all was still OK so I'm a little non-plussed. It could well be some form of tag version mis-match but I'll be beggared as to what.

    Appreciate you looking at this.

  15. OK. I  noticed that one artist in my collection, under the 'Artist' view, was down as 'T.g. Sheppard'. As this knawed at my OCD'ish nature I decided to re-tag it to be correct. Lo and behold it was correct. i.e. the artist tag was 'T.G. Sheppard' (note the space after the second period). I checked with mp3tag, Tagscanner and even Groove music on my PC and they all had it tagged correctly. I checked the same file on the phone and it was also correct there (used mixplorer to get to the file location and it showed the metadata as correct).

Also, if I use Poweramp to play this song and look at the 'Info/Tags' display this also shows the artist as correct as above.

I copied the file and changed the artist tag to be 'T.G.Sheppard' (no space after the second period!) and this time the artist view (after a 'rescan' of course) was also correct. So it appears that the artist view can be upset by a period followed by a space .....

The views I have noticed to be wrong are, as said, the artist view and, on the main player screen where you have the bar that has a left/right/left animation of the artist name and album name.

The question is, is this a minor bug or is there some setting that can alter how this character combination is interpreted?

I have test files I could send but this seems fairly trivial to reproduce.

Phone is a Note9 running Android 12 and Poweramp is version 939. Oh, and a screenshot is attached to show what I mean.

    Thanks.

    EDIT: I'm experiencing this on a Samsung A52 5G (Android 12) and on a Lenovo Tab TB-8705F (Android 10).

    Screenshot_20220505-191054_Poweramp.jpg

I'm also seeing this. Thought it was a font size problem after switching to the Yaps skin so played about with font sizes but no joy. Switched back to the Dark Default Skin and still have the same problem.

Running a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on a stock (Note 10 based) Android 12 OneUI 4.1 ROM (Noble ROM). Music on a 512GB SD Card. PA 935.

    Hope that helps.

  17. Not really been into different skins etc, just 'use' PA to play music. Anyhow, one thing that annoys me (and it's a personal thing so no point in saying 'it's fine for me' ...!) is the round volume 'knob'. I just find it a pain to easily change volume levels that way. Is there a skin, or stock setting maybe, that allows me to change the 'knob' for a slider for example?

    Thanks in advance.

update about 2 weeks ago i was on the phone for 2 hrs with tech support about my bluetooth issues on my phone and resetting the data and cache for the bluetooth service didn't help either.  My phone is still not connecting automatically to my car stereo most the time lately.  and still takes forever when it does connect.  takes exactly 40 secs.

What about connecting to other BT devices? Any improvements or the same? I've found car stereos the worst for BT connections. Have you got the latest firmware for your stereo?  Have you tried a factory reset (on the stereo) and/or a complete reset/delete of ALL BT devices on that radio? I had one stereo that, on power-on, checked each BT device it had been paired with in order. And it was slow about it (!!). So if my phone was 4th in the list then it would take a long time to connect and start playing.

I have now a 2015 Honda Jazz with a stereo that runs an altered/locked-down version of Android 4.(something). Depending on whether I press pause on the phone or stereo (for Poweramp) depends on whether music plays immediately the next time they connect or is still on pause - + loads of other issues.

Basically, you may not get to the bottom of the issue you're concerned with and even if you know what causes the problem (if it is the stereo) getting it fixed will prove somewhat frustrating ....
