  1. I'm going to call this solved. I did pull up the songs in a tagging app. I wasn't able to tell that they were tagged with multiple formats but I did see that some of them had no genre listed, even though there is one listed in my Apple Music app (where I over-wrote the genres). So maybe that's more of an Apple Music app problem 😕 The ones I got in the second batch did have genre listed but I was finally able to piece together what they all had in common: I had downloaded them from Bandcamp. They're not the only songs I've downloaded from Bandcamp but they are suspiciously all from there. So I resaved the genres to all the songs in the tagging app and now they all appear as usual in Poweramp. Thanks for again talking me though this!
  2. I'm using Poweramp 957 and I have a Pixel 6 Pro (Android 13). I overwrite all the genres on my song files using the Apple Music app to keep them consistent. About once a month I re-import a subset of my song library from my Mac to my phone. There are about 1,500 songs on my phone and 7 of the albums have ended up with their genres removed (listed as "Unknown genre" on the Genres screen) although most of the songs of each genre end up correct. When I imported songs for the very first time 3 albums had all songs with no genre. Later, I added some new folders and all the songs in one of the folders ended up with no genre although I added a few more songs later to that folder and they all have the correct genre. So far these are the only two times any new songs were added that had their genres removed but even when I re-import them exactly these same albums again have no genre. I tried going into Poweramp and correcting one of the songs to have the correct genre but then when I re-imported it, it again had the genre removed. It's always a whole album - meaning there aren't any albums that have some genres right, some genres missing. This is pretty strange, right? I can't find any correlation among the albums that have no genre except that most of them were first introduced in that one folder I mentioned above. Any idea what could be causing this?
  3. Yeah, I'll leave the setting as is just because I like to trust the default settings AMAP. I think something like this shouldn't require a settings investigation and it doesn't. Still, good to know!
  4. Works amazing. Saves me from having to even hit the "All Genre Songs" panel. Thanks, you two. Removes a step from my suggestion for mirko77 too.
  5. Completely nailed it. Thanks so much for the speedy and detailed explanation. A little embarrassed I wrote so much and caused you to write so much to get there but at least I learned a lot about the best music app ever along the way I've also learned that there is not actually some UI failing due to over-option engineering. It all comes down to this: I did not realize the All Genre Songs panel was clickable. That solves everything. Categories expertise isn't relevant. You really can throw all the songs from a category into a single pool. There's a lot of discussion in this thread which is obviously a testament to how dedicated (and nerdy) we all are about our music and music enjoyment. I feel bad to hear how mirko77 is belaboring their setup just to play Dream Theater on shuffle @mirko77, It's not reasonable for me to create a playlist for every genre. First, I have a lot of genres. Second, the music in each genre is changing all the time. Third, genres was just an example. I also want to be able to randomize albums and folders, etc. I don't want to presume that I can just save the day here but see if you can't get away with this: 1) Navigate to Library 2) Select "Artists" 3) Find and select "Dream Theater" 4) Click the "All Artist Songs" panel just above the list of albums 5) Click the shuffle icon right above that 6) Grab a beer Does that work?
  6. I totally love Poweramp and I frequently put it in my iOS friends' faces that they don't get to have it Thank you so much for the wonderful product. It's beautiful, it sounds great, and it's loaded with amazing features. I am also an Android developer with 10 years of experience. I do have to apologize though, I have also spent an impressive amount of time being flummoxed by the shuffle feature. Here's what I want to do: 1) Select a genre (or occasionally some other category). 2) Play the songs in shuffled order. It seems like that should be a no-brainer, the default shuffle option, but I'd embarrass myself admitting how much time I've spent trying to figure this out. Even though I brag about the app I can't use it when people come over because it's always jumping from Thrash Metal to Drum & Bass XD. I came here with the plan of writing out every sequence of steps I can imagine and either finding that one of them works or leaving it to you to tell me I'm missing something exotic in the settings. I do believe I've found a way to accomplish what I want but it's still a lot of steps. I understand how difficult it can be to give people all the options that make an app like this so great - iPods never confused anyone but you couldn't do jack with them either - so I can accept if there are reasons it must be done this way but I'll go ahead and explain why I think it's confusing to some of us and you can do what you want with that. I apologize this is going to be a long post but we're both developers and interested in "power" apps so I'm going to be very detailed. Obvious essential steps: 1) Navigate to Library 2) Select "Genres" 3) Select genre of your choice, say "Thrash Metal" Now there are some options. 1) It seems like the most obvious would be to hit the shuffle icon on the upper panel. It's above text that says "All Genre Songs - 54 songs" but what it does is select one of the albums at random then play the songs in that album at random. This is hard to figure out without looking at the "track/count" indicator because I'm not even considering the concept of "albums" at this point. All I did was select a genre and a shuffle button. Bringing up the song details screen, I see there's a different shuffle button so maybe I just have the wrong setting? But again looking at the "song/count" indicator I see that it's hopeless. There's no way to expand the pool of songs to the whole genre and play them at random. "Shuffle All" seems promising but of course now I'm hearing Drum & Bass again 2) Hit the play icon in the upper panel then figure out how to shuffle later. But again, using the "track/count" indicator I see that "play" also doesn't do what I expect. It selects albums one at a time rather than all at once and again there's no way to expand the shuffling to the whole genre without including your entire library (unless I'm missing something). 3) The final button on the top panel is "Select". Ah, so this is where I select all the albums in the genre at the same time (kinda thought I did that when I selected the genre in the first place). It still seems strange that it doesn't look like I can shuffle all the songs I've selected anywhere in either that bottom dialog or on the genre screen after selecting "All". The only way I can see to do what I want is to add all albums in the genre to the queue then go back to Library, select "Queue" and select the shuffle icon. This method also has a pitfall because I might have already had songs in my queue. So here are the steps to play songs in a genre on shuffle the best I can figure: 1) Navigate to Library 2) If there are songs in the Queue select "Queue" 3) Select the overflow menu and select "Clear Queue" 4) Navigate back to Library 5) Select "Genres" 6) Select genre of choice 7) Select "Select" 8 ) Check "All" 9) Select "Queue" 10) Navigate back to Library 11) Select "Queue" again 12) Select the "Shuffle" icon it seems like there should be an option along these lines: 1) Navigate to Library 2) Select "Genres" 3) Select genre of choice 4) Select one more thing and grab a beer
