volume button lockscreen skip...totally confused

I've read so many conflicting things on this topic.

I'm trying to set up so that, when screen is off, I can skip tracks using volume key long press.

Some posts I read says this should work. Others say it won't.

ISee choices for this in my aosp rom lockscreen settings but can't figure how to get this working.

Can someone advise me what I need to set in Poweramp and what on my rom lock screen for this to work?
