ReplayGain is processed based on one of two possible pre-embedded tags. These tags are calculated in advance, and permanently encoded within each audio file.

The Track value is set based on that individual track's own maximum peak level.

The Album value is set for the maximum peak value for any track in the album group. Every track in the same album will have the same number, so the gain won't vary track-by-track but stay the same throughout the whole album. This is so a song that is meant to be played quieter than the rest of the album stays quieter.

You select which of those two tags you want PA to apply via the Replay Gain settings page.

The Album version is only worth using while you are listening to a whole album. If you are listening to individual tracks from different albums, use the Track option.

Thank you very much for your explanations. It makes things much clearer for me.

  2. Even if Bencherished doesn't think it's that important 😉, is there a chance that reverse stereo will be integrated in an update?

That would be a really, really great feature for me. And I think it's not that difficult to programme 😬☺️

    I really would appreciate it.

  3. Thanks for your response.

I read the FAQ and hope having understood, what this setting (DVC) does.

My device supports DVC, but there is no setting in the developers Area of my phone for absolute volume.

But I think my phone only sends a beep, when I set it to highest volume. It doesn't cut off too high volumes.

When using it with AA in my car, the volume control has no effect. The volume can only be changed via the car system. Only if I set the volume control of the mobile phone completely to 0, the sound via the car speakers is also gone.

What I (also) don't understand completely is Replay gain for "Album" or "track" . I always thought, that choosing "album" would cause that every song of an album/folder would have the same highest volume. But when I compile an album myself from different sources and save it in one folder, and the tracks in it have different volumes, the quietest track is not aligned with the loudest. I tried this once by saving the same song at different volumes. But the volume differences always remain. The songs are not played at the same volume.

Is there a way to align this?

    @Prosenjit 1. I wouldn't call 24 bits "capping". Everything beyond 20bits

    2. Volume is low if you enable DVC (this is volume control) and Absolute Volume is also enabled (this is also volume control). Double volume control causes very low volume. Either DVC (recommended for car headunits or other hardware with own good DSP) or Absolute volume (recommended for headsets/headphones/buds with volume control) should be disabled.

Can "absolute volume" only be switched off in the mobile phone settings themselves? I don't have the option in the developer options.

I have read the explanation for DVC in PA (also in German), but I don't quite understand it.

What is the difference with Replay gain?

I have the impression that the basses (kick drum of drums) distort through the Handy speaker. If I turn down the preamp value at eq or the second preamp value at RG (-2db), the distortion is gone.

But the two values have nothing to do with with each other, do they?

  5. I have now tried it a few more times.
At the beginning, the controls were not displayed. At that point, the last use was 2 days ago. When I start on the mobile phone, the sound comes over the car speakers and at some point the buttons appear.
After a break of about 2 hours, I connected the mobile phone again and the buttons appeared quite quickly.
Maybe the car and mobile phone are now slowly getting used to each other 😁

  6. I have played shuffled songs of one genre in the car via AA (connected to USB). When I wanted to skip a track, a beep sound came up. No matter if I skipped on the steering wheel or on the Auto-Display-Launcher.
With another music player app, on the other hand, there is no beep.
If the mobile phone is not connected and played "normally" with sound via the speakers and I skip a track, there is also no beep.
I can't find a way to set this under the AA settings in Poweramp.
    Does anyone have an idea?

  7. I have now purchased Poweramp.
When I open Android Auto in the car, the Poweramp button appears, when I press it, it doesn't get any better than with the trial version: a message comes up that Poweramp doesn't seem to be ready.
Sometimes it works when I press "Play" on my phone. Then the control buttons appear in AA in the car and I can manage Poweramp with the car launcher.
But today that didn't help either. I was able to start the music from the phone, but Poweramp was not operable from AA in the car, because no buttons appeared.
Only after I unplugged the USB cable and then plugged it back in it did work.
The unpleasant thing is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, so you can't narrow down the error.I have now given it a try. Before connecting the mobile phone to the car, I started PA briefly, then paused it again. Then I connected it to the car via USB - and the controls were there.
Of course, it would be nice if it worked without this intermediate step. Above all, I would be interested to know why it doesn't work without this step.

  9. It's me again 😉

My music collection is divided into main and subfolders. E.g. Artists > A > a-ha > Hunting high and low
Is it possible that the main folders (in my case "artists" and "A") do not show any covers? At the moment they take covers from the first subfolder where covers are found as a file.

There is an item in the menu where you can activate or deactivate this. But it effects all folder.
I have now placed a black image file in these main folders, which Poweramp can then access.
But if it could be done differently (and easier), that would be nice, of course.

But I think, my request is little bit too complex, so I have to deal with the black or other image files (maybe letters a to z).

    Thanks in advance ☺️

  10. I'm not quite sure I understand what is meant by the "track menu / folder" button (Below left the 4 small squares).
In the UI menu it says that you can set whether it leads to folders hierarchy instead of folders library.
But for me there is no difference.
Since I always navigate via my music folders (in folders hierarchy), it would be great if I could get to these folders immediately by pressing a button.
