All the tracks in my Poweramp playlists have desappeared.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm a yoga teacher and I've had close to 20 playlists on my Poweramp that I would you use for my yoga classes. This morning I've got up to only find out that all my carefully selected tracks have disappeared from the playlists. The playlists are still showing with the 0 tracks next to them.

I've tried to rescan the files and folders ( using rescind option under Poweramp setting), no results.

Help!

Are these playlists in external files (e.g. .M3U files) or did you build them song-by-song in Poweramp itself (which would create internal database playlists).

If the latter, have you made any backup copies via Settings > Folders and Library > Export Poweramp Playlists ?

Have there been any changes to your file system recently, such as an Android upgrade or running your device with the SD Card removed, even for a few seconds? Either of these could cause Poweramp to think that the original songs have been deleted (and thus would no longer exist in its database, which means that any playlists referring to them would be empty too). Even if the songs reappear they will be considered 'new' files and will be scanned in as new songs.

If the playlists are external (either originally file-based or as backups) and the file system got changed, it should be possible to recover the contents very easily.

Thanks for your reply Andre. I have built these playlists song by song in Poweramp and I have not made a back up copy. So, I guess it is all gone? I don't understand why. I haven't done any upgrade to my phone. I haven't been restarting it and didn't take the SD card out. Just normal day to day use.

I also have the external (file based) playlists in my Poweramp and those are ok. No tracks are missing.

So, I guess, no way to recover?

Sadly internally created playlists are only stored in a database, as pointers to songs within the PA library, and once any item has been removed from that database it is gone forever (unless you have previous backed the playlist up).

At some time, the SD card must have not been reading properly when PA did a rescan, which would cause PA to think the songs had all been deleted and thus removed from the library, which would cause them to vanish from internal playlists too. The songs may have been found again on another scan, but they would be 'new' and the old playlist references would not return.

Poweramp Settings > Folders and Library > Export Poweramp Playlists.

Or there's a third-party app called New Playlist Manager, from forum user Theoklink, that does that task and a whole lot more.

Yes, I have that New Playlist Manager installed on my device as well. I needed it when I was switching from my previous Android phone and needed to transfer the poweramp playlists. However, I don't find the New Playlist Manager to be as convenient for use on a daily basis as Poweramp. So I've never used it since then.

Anyways, really appreciate your help.

Have a wonderful day,

Mahaya

What Theo was saying is that if you used NPM to transfer your playlists to your new phone, they would be saved as M3U files inside the playlist manager folder, so you could recover them from there.

Yes, I did get it, Andre. Those playlists are all good. I have them. It is the ones that I have created since then, on Poweramp, have lost all their tracks. : (

Ah, I see. Sadly if the playlists were created internally in PA only, and not backed up, then whatever the reason they got emptied, the contents sadly cannot be recovered.
