[Urgent] Editing any .aac "Tags, Info" breaks entire file

Recommended Posts

this bug has been around for a long time, but I only recently tracked down what was causing it. I noticed almost every .aac was corrupted on my phone. I figured out that editing any Tag,Info with Power Amp breaks it. if you remember what the tags were before you edited them, you can edit them back and it'll fix the file.

it doesn't just corrupt it for Poweramp but for every music player. this is a serious bug, I don't know how this didn't come up already considering how long this bug has been around.

I can't reproduce this with a test AAC file. I don't use them myself, so I downloaded a small AAC sample from http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/HTTP/http-aac.htm (the bottom one, twist_shout.acc).

The test file initially had no tags at all, and I was able to add tags fine in Poweramp. It correctly added ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.4 formatted tags, and the file continued to play fine on both my phone and my PC.

I then tried the same file but after first adding some tags on my PC (using TagScanner) and I was still able to successfully modify those tags within Poweramp in order to make the existing entries longer and add some new items such as Year and Track Number. Again, the file worked fine after modifying.

So it sounds like something about your particular files. Could you perhaps upload a before and after sample music file showing what happens? And/or try the same file I tested above, and see if you can add title/artist/album tags to it?

hm well first thank you for giving such a thorough look at it. here's 2 files, its the same song copied twice, I edited the second copy of the song to make the artist "test edit ", that's the only alteration. the second copy of the song doesn't work now. so in the folder are 2 copies of that song, one with the edit and one without the edit, they are named accordingly.

here's the folder with the 2 songs.

It's something about the file(s) I think. I also tried editing your original version using TagScanner on my PC (I just added an album title) and I couldn't then play the resulting version in Poweramp either. Neither of the edited files worked in VLC on my PC either, although my PC media player of choice (ZoomPlayer) managed to cope OK with them.
