Car Stereo Defaulting to Track 0 When Phone in Standby

When I turn on my car stereo I wait for a few seconds while it finds my GS4 cell phone and establishes a Bluetooth connection after which the stereo switches to pause. Instead of fishing my cell phone out of my pocket and having to find your app all I have to do is press the pauuse buutton on the stereo and it starts to play. The problem is that unless Poweramp is open on the phone that it will start playing track 0 instead of where it left off last time. In other words if the phone is in standby with the screen dark and I press the pause button on my stereo it will play track 0. What can I do to address this problem.
