Ordering Selections in a Playlist

Suppose I have added 10 songs to a playlist in an arbitrary order. If I now want to play them in a specific order, how do I go about doing that  -- how do I order them song 1, song 2 2, song 3 etc.? I thought that pressing on a song's title and moving it up or down that list would work, but it did not.
