ciscokid422
I recently upgraded my previous phone to a samsung S24+. All music files etc were successfully transferred to new phone but the playlists do not come up. Thanks for any suggestions Link to comment https://forum.powerampapp.com/topic/28589-how-to-get-playlists-to-work-on-new-android-phone/ Share on other sites
andrewilley
Internal or file-based playlists? File-based ones just need the M3U files copied over to the new device for scanning. Internal ones are stored in the database on your old device so you'll need to use PA Settings=>Export Settings/Data and then re-import that backup to your new device (you can select to just copy playlists only if you don't want anything else restored between the old and new devices). ciscokid422
The previous phone 22s android worked fine and I just transferred all the files and music to my new phone. I tried to export from the old version but I did not know the name of the files nor where it should go in the new phone directory. I use files to be able to see all the files and folders. Thanks. -CK Link to comment https://forum.powerampapp.com/topic/28589-how-to-get-playlists-to-work-on-new-android-phone/#findComment-133251 Share on other sites
andrewilley
The location of the Poweramp Settings backup file can be anywhere you choose, the 'Export Settings/Data' option gives you a picker screen to select where to save it. I just use my main music folder as it's easiest to remember. Then make sure that file has been copied to your new device and use the companion 'Import' option. The filename for the backup will be <date-time>.poweramp-backup. ciscokid422
When I get to settings and use select the import Settings/Data it says load settings/data from Poweramp- settings and Poweramp backup. when I select the file option, I click on select file it comes up with all my music in their appropriate folder. and the documents. What files am I supposed to select and how do I find it? andrewilley
First copy your <date-time>.poweramp-backup file from your old phone to the new one. Then use the Poweramp 'Import Settings/Data' option and tap 'Select File' which should display a file selector which lets you find and choose the backup file that you want to restore. The next screen will allow you to choose what items you want to restore (possibly just Playlists, but maybe other stuff too if you want). ciscokid422
I have successfully copied the sdcardbackup from my old phone into my new phone in the music directory. The issues is that when I try to import (from the music directory), the file I get all these music audio file as well as a folder that says documents. From my new phone how do I find and choose the backup file? ciscokid422
I gave up on being able to transfer existing playlist to new phone and just created new playlist. Prolly should have just done that at the beginning. NBD and thanks for trying to help. Seems like a bug in not being able to easily transfer over playlists. I never mentioned an sdcardbackup (although you probably used that to copy your music files). All you needed to do was copy your *.poweramp-backup file from your old device to your new device. The filename will contain the date/time of the Export, so you know you've got the right file. Then tap 'Import' in Poweramp on the new device and use the file explorer map to navigate to the location where you saved the file and tap on it. I find list view easier to navigate folders/files than the large tiles, and I put my backups in a Backups subfolder so I can find them more easily later: Andre Link to comment https://forum.powerampapp.com/topic/28589-how-to-get-playlists-to-work-on-new-android-phone/#findComment-133277 Share on other sites

andrewilley
You find it wherever you put it. You copied it over - maybe via USB connection using a PC, maybe by wireless file transfer - so where did you save it to? That's where you should look in the Android file selector that pops up when you use the Import feature in PA. ciscokid422
OK so I was able to export (and find) the backup file you referenced. I put that file in my music directory on my new phone. No playlist other that the one I created. I went to settings and tried to import that file and I try, it says no permission. What's my next move? What's my next move? Just place the backup file in whatever directory the media library of Poweramp already has access to... Have you already selected this folder for your music library within Poweramp or no? ciscokid422
I'm not sure of your question about folder selected for my music library. My music folder has all my music and whatever else. I've done several rescans to try and resolve the playlist issue. Where do I find the media library to know what Pa needs access to. andrewilley
If the backup file from your old device has now been copied to your new device, and is now in the same folder location where your music files all reside, you should be able to use Settings=>Import to navigate to that location and select the required file. Once selected, make sure 'Playlists' is ticked in the list of items for restoring before you complete the process by tapping the final 'Import' button. Fitzian
Without showing screenshots, or a screen recording (should be easy to accomplish on your new phone), I'm afraid the hurdle here is a skill issue. Your next move has been stated multiple times above. andrewilley
I can't see why a file in the same location as your scanned music files should not have access permission. Would need to see some screenshots. 6b6561
Could it be that Android default Music folder only gives access to media files? Link to comment https://forum.powerampapp.com/topic/28589-how-to-get-playlists-to-work-on-new-android-phone/#findComment-133336 Share on other sites
andrewilley
@6b6561 Possibly, I never use the default folder anyway, Android wants to own it (won't allow a .nomedia file for example).
