Very useful to separate different releases of the same album

The "Official" id3 standard for this field is;

TIT1
The 'Content group description' frame is used if the sound belongs to a larger category of sounds/music. For example, classical music is often sorted in different musical sections (e.g. "Piano Concerto", "Weather - Hurricane").

But really you can use any tag field any way you prefer. The grouping tag is handy though even if it is used in its original design for classical music. Other formats are just an added benefit.

How would you envisage it being used within Poweramp's interface?

Maybe checkbox in list options near reverse checkbox to enable or disable the feature, and when enable category look like this:

Or maybe just don't show the value of the tag, so look like this:

That's why I prefer vorbis comment

You have to consider all of the possible formats as PA combines these into one library. Consistency is not always simple. But you can't have a feature that only works for one select kind of audio file.

Said from person who mentioned id3 first lol

ID3 is by far the most common tagging format, given that it is used for MP3 files which are most commonly used for audio files. Vorbis is mainly used by the more niche FLAC format.

However anything that is implemented in Poweramp must be available (and fairly commonly used in the wild) in all the regularly encountered file formats.

Of course I would mention that first, there are millions of users where mp3 is their format of choice. Personally I am not one of those. Most of my music is in ALAC as it is a lossless format that satisfies both the Android and iOS users in my house. Yet most of my online purchases are in FLAC and I keep the original version intact.

I didn't shoot your idea down but rather called out that if any tag is to be added to Poweramp's library it has to be done consistently. There are many more that I would like to see supported as well. Ultimately it is up to the developer, but on a mobile platform there will be limits to hoe big the library can become.

Did I mention tag from vorbis comment? Yes.

Did I mention for Poweramp to need support vorbis comment only? No.

Did I mention I prefer codec which uses vorbis comment? Yes, for my digital audio collection.

Did I know that mp3 which uses id3 as its metadata is the most popular codec? Absolutely.
