Poweramp EQ doesn't work after a while, even when everything's enabled and apps showing in known players

Recommended Posts

I'm on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro with HyperOS and after I reinstall the equalizer app and set it up through webadb and set everything up, it works for a while (by showing the app I'm listening to in the notification), and then it suddenly stops working (it says "no player" in the notification), despite having all permissions, DUMP and Advanced Tracking on, it doesn't work without reinstalling it every time it stops working, which I don't have time for. All the apps I listen to are in the known players list, and it says "20 hr ago" which seems to be the last time it worked.

It's either a problem with HyperOS or Android 14.

I'm using the Redmi Note 12 (not the pro) and since it's updated to HyperOS and Android 14 I have the same problem.

With Android 13 I didn't have any problem at all with Poweramp EQ.

I'm using Spotify only and every time I am listening to Spotify Poweramp EQ isn't recognized Spotify at first and no audio processing is happening.

Poweramp EQ is only processing by either pressing stop/play a few times or skip to the next track a few times in Spotify.

Poweramp EQ also stopped processing randomly while choosing a new track from another playlist in Spotify.

Processing will be back by opening Poweramp EQ. Sometimes I have to do this a few times in a row. Sometimes the volume comes up way to loud (twice as it was before without changing the volume button on the phone). To solve this problem I have to stop/start playing music from Spotify a few times.

It's a bit annoying at all.

@mattyraap1966 Android audio subsystem (where the actual DSP/equalizer implementation takes place) has some limits regarding number of effects it can properly handle. A large number of apps using equalization and other system DSPs may "overload" it, also some firmwares have leaks there (specifically the firmwares with customization around sound subsystem - these are almost always very buggy customizations), and DSP effects my just fail to work until phone reboot. Google Pixels, Samsungs are usually very stable in this regard, but the experience for the other OEMs may vary.

Perhaps it's also a problem of Spotify.

Within the last two updates of Spotify it's working more stable.

Now it's very seldom that Poweramp isn't recognized the processing via Spotify.

Beside Spotify App nothing else changed here.

As I said, it's a little annoying but I know how to solve this non processing via Spotify.
