marshr32
Is there a way to make sure that when a playing song is clicked Poweramp only ever goes to the folder that song is in? Sometimes when I click a song it goes to all songs in alphabetical order, regardless of folder structure. Folders hierarchy is the only thing I have selected in the library list options and it's the home one too. Thanks 😁
andrewilley
If you started playing in Folders Heirarchy in the first place, that's what you will go back to if you tap on the cover artwork. However if you started playing via Search or by manually launching a file, you will more likely be in All Songs mode. Same applies if you set Shuffle to 'All Songs' mode. You can force a return to Folders view by long-pressing on the artwork and tapping 'Folder'. Note: to ensure you go to Folders Hierarchy mode rather than the plain Folders list, check that PA Settings=>Look and Feel=>Player UI=>'Navigate to the Folders' is turned off. marshr32
Thanks Andre. Is there any way to have it never go to all songs or any other mode? Example: I'm in folders, selecting songs, tapping the artwork to go back, selecting another one.... That works ok. But then I search, play a song, tap the artwork to go back expecting to go to the folder the song is in, and suddenly I'm in albums displayed in tile format (which I never want to see). I really just want folders hierarchy to be the only thing the player ever uses, no matter how the song was started.
andrewilley
If you use Search, then the Category used for playback will depend on the results section that you selected the song from. For example if you choose a song from the 'Composers' results, playback will commence in Composers mode. If you chose from 'Folders', playback will start in Folders mode. Note: That's Folders, not Folders Hierarchy; the Search screen does not use the Settings=>Look and Feel=>Player UI=>'Navigate to the Folders' setting, so it uses the default Folders mode ( @maxmp perhaps playing folders from Search could recognise that option too in future?). After using Search and selecting from a different results list - such as Albums or All Songs - you'd need to use the long-press=>Folders method to get back to a Folders Hierarchy view (and if you then tap on the song that's currently playing, the current mode will be changed to your preferred Folders Hierarchy). There is no way to force one specific mode forever though, as the whole point of the Category system is that the user can choose whichever mode is wanted at the time by how they start playback. Solution marshr32 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Solution Share Posted December 11, 2023 It's a bummer that searching from folders doesn't find individual songs. But the way I've found around this whole thing is to set the "List item click action" to "play and stay in the list". Then it's one back click to get to the main screen. Understood, and the category system is great. Obviously I'm a minority, but I can't choose the mode I want.

Personally the sudden change in navigating style seems very unintuitive to me. Just because I turn shuffle on, doesn't mean I wanna change the way I navigate around the app. It's good to have these kinds of functions in the app, but it's also good to have a way to turn them off if desired. A "don't change navigation style" button would be wonderful. The older version of Poweramp that I ran on my old phone didn't change navigation style. No idea what version that was exactly, but it was pre PEQ (love the PEQ BTW)
andrewilley
Navigation style is not usually changing by turning Shuffle on. It mostly will only change to a new Catgeory mode if that is what you select - i.e. by starting playback from a new Category view. Andre
marshr32
What I mean is that it changes from navigating in a folder style to an all songs style. If I start a song from a folder view, turn shuffle on, >> to the next track, and tap the album art I'm suddenly navigating in an all songs style, which to me is unexpected. You say "if that is what you select" but I can't not select that behavior.
andrewilley
If you start playing (for example) a Folder in non-shuffled order, then playback will continue in that folder until it's finished, and then move on to the next folder, etc. If you then change to Shuffle All Songs by using the Shuffle button on the Player Screen, the playback sequence will now vary song by song because that's what you've asked it to do. But if you tap on the artwork area, you'll still be taken to the relevant folder view for the currently playing song. And if you turn Shuffle off again, you'll be back in Folders mode.
