AlbertWest
Although most of my flac files work fine, there are also several hundred files which show up as unknown artist. However, if I view the tags in Poweramp the Artist & Album artist are shown so it's not clear to me why this is happening. I've tagged almost all my files with Picard & Mp3tag so I'm pretty confident that my tags are accurate. All my flac files are synced directly to the phone storage on a Samsung S23 Ultra (latest updates installed). The Poweramp Changelog says version 971-974 is installed. I've included two screenshots which show the problem. Thanks!
andrewilley
Is there anything in common between the files which don't get scanned correctly - location, editing process, etc? Have you tried a FULL Rescan (in Settings=>Library), and does the scan progress appear normal in both phases - quick first phase and longer second phase. For the problem songs, how do they appear in the Library view, do you see any data or just the filename (xxxx.flac) in the list? Andre
maxmp
@AlbertWest this may happen if Poweramp has never actually scanned the file. Actually normal rescan (available also in list header menus) should pick up those.
AlbertWest
As I synced all my files in one go earlier this year they should have been indexed with the initial installation and scan when I installed Poweramp. The file as shown in the example, was already present and has not been changed since 2020. I guess that it's some can of bug in Poweramp which has caused it to see a lot of files as unknown. About a week ago it where around 500 files and suddenly this increased tp 2500 files. Showing a file as unknown AND showing the tags containing the correct data seems like some database mismatch. However, I'm happy to report that a full rescan successfully remediated the problem as now all artists / albums are shown correctly again. So thanks for the hints and suggestions 👍
andrewilley
@AlbertWest Excellent, glad that helped. Although an uninstall/reinstall should have started the library again from scratch, I wonder if there were entries that somehow got restored but were pointing to old / invalid locations. That's what Full Rescan is meant to resolve anyway, but I don't know why the issue persisted through a clean reinstall. Andre
AlbertWest
I don't that the locations have changed since installation. I've configured syncthing on both my phone and NAS. This setup has worked fine since initial installation so I can't imagine that files have moved on my phone. Especially only a couple of hundred of them. Please note that I didn't do a clean reinstall. I bought my phone a couple of months ago, configured both syncthing and Poweramp and that hasn't changed since then. maxmp
@AlbertWest Poweramp doesn't trigger "foreground" scanning process (when there is a notification with some scan progress and scanning happens in the "foreground" background). Instead, Poweramp tries to scan as much as possible while it's in the foreground (while UI is on top or when playing). Recent Androids kill background app in about 30 to 60 seconds (and some Chinese firmwares will do that sometimes even for the foreground app) - so scan may not complete fully for a larger library. Poweramp will attempt to scan rest of the library next time unless scan is disabled in Settings / Library / Scanner. The "foreground" scanning with the notification and progress was there, but was removed by user requests.
AlbertWest
Sadly, the problem is back. Currently over 2000 tracks are listed as unknown artist after a full rescan. A second rescan took much longer to complete and raised the number to 2106 tracks. When I open such a track the tags show the correct info just as in the example. Edit: I also noticed when scanning the file counter goes up to 15000 and jumps back to 9920 at completion. Checked the number of files in the music folder: 15993, this includes album art jpgs And the unknown artist files can be played without any problem. I wish I had made a screenshot of the unknown artist count when I thought it was solved after the first rescan. Anyway, the number of tracks seems to vary after each full rescan, now it's 1806.
