New buttons for lockscreen and AndroidAuto: Next Folder and Previous Folder

I have been using the Poweramp app for many years, everything is fine, thank you very much!
I recently connected my phone to a car with Android Auto, everything works, but I would like to add a couple of wishes.

I mainly use the Folders Hierarchy mode, and in Android Auto mode there is a very lack of the ability to switch to the next/previous folder.
I found the settings for the functions of the additional keys, there are some useful features there, but not "Next/Previous folder".

Please, please add the "next folder" and "previous folder" options to the list of functions of the additional keys for Android Auto.
As I understand, these keys are also used as additional ones on the lock screen, I think this feature will also be useful there.

Thank you for the great soft!

P.S. I use the latest player for Android from Play Market.

I agree that >>> and <<< functions would be useful in the extended Android Auto menu options.

In the meantime, have you tried double-clicking on the + and - buttons on your steering wheel controls? Single clicks should change songs, and double-click should change Category (e.g. next or previous folder).

Thank you for reply, andrewilley!

Unfortunately, double-click in Android Auto mode works only like 2 separate ones.

Also, the same behavior is on the Android lockscreen while playing: two clicks only move forward/backward for 2 tracks.

Double tapping on the screen won't help, it's physical button presses which generate the keycode events. PA should be detecting the taps, so it ought to work. Make sure 'Respond to Buttons' and the 'Double/Triple' press options are enabled in PA Settings=>Headset/Bluetooth.

In PA Settings=>Headset/Bluetooth=>Last Processed Commands, you should see two MEDIA_BUTTON KEYCODE_MEDIA_NEXT ACTION_DOWN/ACTION_UP pairs in quick succession. One pair of events (DOWN then UP) occurring will trigger a track change via 'PlayerService NEXT' event, while two or three sets (clicked rapidly) will generate 'PlayerService NEXT_IN_CAT'. This is from a watch, but Android Auto should generate basically the same sequences.

Next Track:

KEYCODE_MEDIA_NEXT ACTION_DOWN name=Virtual source=0x0 sources=0x301 virt=true repeat=0 actionTime=1027855168 sourcePak=com.samsung.android.heartplugin flags=0x0 playerState=1

andrewilley, thank you so much!

It really works, I've only adjusted "PA Settings=>Headset/Bluetooth" to recognize double press.

However, I'm still thinking that the options "Next/previous folder" would be useful in Android Auto mode.

On the photo in the attachment, in Android Auto workscreen there are only options "backward, pause/play, forward", and unfortunately it's impossible to add there "next folder, previous folder".

Thanks for support! Hope these buttons will be implemented soon!

Those taskbar shortcut items are limited by AA design, so you won't see any extra functionality there. However you can edit the extra button options in the full media player screen, and hopefully Max will be able to add Next Category and Previous Category to the list at some point.

andrewilley, sure, in this mode there are only 4 buttons, including "PA" one, but in full-screen mode could be added custom ones from the settings list.

And I'm really sure, that buttons "next folder" and "previous folder" would be useful in this mode.

Here is a screenshot from full-screen mode. Sorry for poor quality, camera can't focus on the display.

Yes, I agreed with you in my last post that this would be handy. Not sure how useful having the 'X' to close the app is though...

@maxmp I think it would be a good idea to separate the two editable buttons for the phone Status Notification panel from the six possible buttons available for Android Auto.

In Notifications a total of five button are shown, so '<<<' and '>>>' make perfect sense either side of the regular '<' and '>' buttons, thus:

However in Android Auto, if you want to use more than the initial five slots, the last button turns into the overflow-selector which means you won't see both <<< and >>> on the main screen any more. So I've set my AA buttons as follows:

However the current system prevents me from having both variants set up at the same time, as changing AA to the above layout also negates my desired choice of <<< and >>> for Notifications, resulting in:

@andrewilley there is just one set of buttons used by Android everywhere (notification area/Auto/watches/etc.). We just provide list of buttons once, we can provide different sets to Auto or Notifications.

@maxmp Oh, that's annoying. So Android Auto has to pick up its extended button options from the same base choices as Status Notifications? Given the way the overflow feature in AA is displayed for more than five buttons, that's really clunky.

@andrewilley exactly. But still it's better this (configurable) way.

Definitely. I guess you just need to choose which display you want to look right, and live with the other one being muddled.
