Accented characters not sorting properly: "Sébastien" is sorted after "Sweet Avenue"

Hello!

My Android is in French and I have some French artists in my library.

Noticed that accented characters are not sorting properly: "Sébastien" is sorted after "Sweet Avenue".  It should be listed after "Sebastian" for instance.

Noticed some Android apps such as "Solid Explorer" have their sorting broken as well, but not the case for Samsung My Files, Google Drive app, or Windows 10.

I can assume this is the same problem with other accented caracters such as à, â, è, î, ô and so on.

Android 11 on SM-A526W

Poweramp Build 967

Thanks

Not a bug. Poweramp currently sorts as expected using standard Unicode. However there is already a feature request open to add a “smart” sorting option to ignore accents or use other methods to improve the expected results for international characters.

Correct. It's in the Frequently Requested Features list in fact. I suspect when Max does get a chance to look at it, he'll probably address most of the points in one go:

Sorry I miss the requested features (I didn't considered it as a feature at first but bug, although yes, understandable that it's Unicode).

Good to hear it's acknowledged and will be worked on, at some point in the future (could take a bit) 😊
