Ability to fetch lyrics (preferably synced) from Musixmatch and Genius and add them to the music file

Recommended Posts

Currently, Poweramp sends the song title & artist info over to an external lyrics app, and that lyrics app is then responsible for searching online and displaying the words within its own interface. Poweramp never gets to see the text itself.

There is also a new API, which should allow external apps to communicate back to Poweramp and send the found text in real time - but currently that has not been implemented by any external lyric apps, although I believe the Lyrics2 author is working on it. Even then though, PA will only be able to display that data just as if it were sourced locally from an embedded tag or a LRC file. It won't be able to embed the words back into the audio file. Maybe once the system has some working support, it might at some point in the future be possible to save the searched text to a LRC file though? That's a long way off yet though.

@andrewilley Okay this app looks like it might do the job and the author is probably going to add synced lyrics support as well. Hopefully the API comes soon but I feel like it might take more resources to communicate to another app every time we want to view the lyrics rather than just doing it only for the first time and saving those lyrics in the music file itself or in a LRC File.

The API is already present in Poweramp, in was introduced in build 948 in January.

However it's now up to any lyric search apps to decide it they want to support it. It's apparently a very simple interface, and should not consume many resources (other than a bit of internet activity). If you want to ask your favourite lyrics app developer to add it, the details are available here:
