PA 948 Wrong Info Displayed in Car

After updating to PA 948 my car starts with the correct song info displayed but then after a couple of tracks it will miss a song change and display 1 song behind what is actually playing. Connection to car is just bluetooth, not Android Auto. This is from a M3U playlist of 79 tracks loaded and playing from the Queue. This worked correctly in PA 945.

Since my main use of Poweramp is in my car via bluetooth and from the Queue I've backed off to PA 945 so my track now playing displayed on my head unit now matches the track that's actually playing. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next release beyond PA 948.

I have the same issue!

In addition my Hyndai Ioniq car multimedia unit supports displaying album covers via Bluetooth. This feature seems to be only supported by very specific Android devices, e.g. my OnePlus 8 pro with OxygenOS 13 works (I think starting with OxygenOS 12 already), my wife's OnePlus Nord with current OxygenOS (not sure if this is also 13 but at least 12) does not support this. However even before the latest Poweramp update the cover display showed the same bug: first cover image matches currently played title, but after switching to the next track, the cover of the previously played song is displayed. It doesn't matter if you jump to the next song by a button or Poweramp switches to the next song after completing the current one. But I'm not sure, this is Poweramp related because AFAIK other players (e.g. Spotify) show the same buggy behavior. Tests with a Apple mobile of a friend indicate, that IOS devices seem not be having this bug.

With the latest Poweramp version, this behavior is also happening for the text info (song, artist, album). Hopefully the next version will not only fix the text info but also finally the cover image display via bluetooth.

I'm willing to provide more detailed debug info if required. Just let me know what and how to collect it.

@Patrick Cernko thanks for the report. Please note that Poweramp "Sends" the image for the notification. It's the image from notification which is taken by bluetooth stack and further processed. If you have one image in notification and another - in headunit, obviously bug is not in Poweramp.

With almost each build some workarounds are added for platform bugs like that, so you may get better results with latest beta (ATM - 953) build.

Thanks!

@maxmp Thanks for your quick answer! I already assumed that the buggy cover display is not caused by Poweramp. Could you please provide me some more technical details about this BT "send image" stuff. I currently have no idea about good keywords to search and report this bug at OnePlus, my phone manufacturer.

I just updated to the 954 beta, was running 953 this morning AFAIK when I drove to office: both bugs (text and image) where still present. Will test with 954 in the afternoon driving home.

@Patrick Cernko Yes, I use a USB cable connection in the car as our generation of Hyundai headunits doesn't seem to support wireless Android Auto (not sure if they support 5GHz wi-fi access, which would be a limitation). Not a biggie for me though as plugging it in also charges the phone at the same time.

@maxmp When starting playback in my car, it's head unit correctly displays the current song title, artist and album as text info and and the album cover as graphics. Switching to the next song, the head unit most likely starts to display the song, artist, album and cover of the last song played. After that it always displays the information of the previous song played independent how ofter the player jumps (or is instructed to jump) to the next track.

If you cannot reproduce it, please let me know, how to enable debugging and what kind of debug output you need to analyse the bug.

I currently downgraded PA to 945 and can confirm @w3wilkes , that the issue (display of outdated information) is gone again with title, artist and album texts but remains with cover images.

@Patrick Cernko you can do a system Developer options / Bug report / Full report right after the issue happens, and please send that to gpmaxmpz@gmail.com

There is a chance firmware doesn't like some advanced Poweramp option. The ones which may potentially affect media APIs are (you can search for them in Settings, then toggle them, change tracks and check if it helps or not):

  • (if you use Hi-Res output) Emulate Media Stream (for Hi-Res output) (enable if disabled)
  • Album Art / API Compatibility
  • Album Art / Always send album art
  • Album Art / Send High Resolution Album Art (disable if enabled)
  • Misc / Now Playing List For Connected Devices/Apps (this should be ON)

Spoiler

I would add that Poweramp properly updates the media info which should be then sent to BT device. That info is the same as can be seen in Android 12 media controller in notification, in log, at lockscreen etc. Any issue here will be immediately noticeable by all users on Android 12+ as their notifications won't update.

Now why it may not work for you - firmware has a specific bug which requires specific workaround. Bugs like this happens, but usually resolved by OEM if users complain enough (e.g. common for MIUI, where betas are always broken), or if the bug is persistent and reproducible, some workaround can be added to player as well (device log may help here).

This! Thanks, disabling the Android Auto options helped. Had exactly the same issue as OP with my Yamaha RX-D485 Recevier, song info was basically lagging 1 song behind - it started in sync, then second song did not change, and the third and any other was updated, but with song info -1. It started just few updates back, so whatever was changed recently is not correct. I do not use Android Auto, but if I was, wondering what would be the possibilities here, to have AA options turned on but have lagging song info anywhere else, or sacrifice AA?
