Android 11 Update has made Playlist, Artists, and Albums Navigation Feature on an external device not available anymore

Hello Poweramp Team,

Hope you are well!

I write this post to ask you for help regarding a problem that has arisen with Android 11 update.

It is regarding the music reproduction through Bluetooth to my Volkswagen car device, Discover Media PQ. With Android 10, when the OnePlus was connected, I could navigate through Artist, Albums, Playlists within the Volskwagen Device, to chose and navigate trough the Playlists/songs I wanted to select.
 
But now, with Android 11, I am not able to do it. I have default restored the device and the behavior is the same. I think it could be related to the permission restriction that Android 11 has done to this folder: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/

Could you help me in resolving this issue please? I want to have the feature of selecting or browsing/navigating through specific songs/playlist within the Volskwagen Device as I could to it before with Android 10.

What I expect to see (the menu you see is from the SD, but it was really similar to the one from Bluetooth source, having Poweramp playing music when it was running over Android 10):

PS: I did already did, with no fixing of the problem, what support team previously suggested:

  1. Uninstall Poweramp Trial and Unlocker.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Install Poweramp from Poweramp site - https://powerampapp.com/downloads/Poweramp-v3-build-last-uni.apk
  4. Test again.

Thank you very much for your replys, but I bring bad news...!

Firstly I have checked that the Settings / Misc / Now Playing List For Connected Devices/Apps is turned on, and aftereards I have tested the 4 different versions of AVRCP, with the unpair, reboot (both VW device and OnePlus 6), and pair again method and the result is the same... Do you know any other possibilities to be tested?

These are the 4 options that I have tested:

Regarding the Android Auto, I have 2 problems:

  • It gets disconnected from time to time.
  • Within Poweramp or any app, when I start to navigate through the folders menu, suddenly the typical menu "hold on and pay attention to the driving" appears and doesn't let me do anything for 5 seconds, and I can't bare it... If you know how to deactivate that, I would be very pleased!

Bluetooth lists can be very much dependent on the device, the Android ROM version in use, and the BT receiving device. And then there are options within BT AVRCP as you have found.

For what it's worth, I've never been able to get lists working via Bluetooth on my Hyundai head-unit at all, with several devices and different Android versions. The same applied in Android Auto too, until a fairly recent AA update from the Play Store which now works really well.

Yeah, the thing is my Android Auto is wired and it is currently letting me browsing through Android Auto menu within Discover Media PQ (VW device), but despite of that, through BT connection (not wired), it is not working...

This sounds like a gap in the VW head unit processing. Obviously if it works when wired it is getting full access to the details it requires and displays them properly. Using the same app but wireless using Bluetooth drops something. If changing the Bluetooth version in your phone's developer settings doesn't help. I don't know what else can be changed.

Thank you very much for your answer!

I see it simplier: the combination of Poweramp app + Android 10 + VW Unit worked properly, letting me browsing my music within VW device via BT.

When Android got upgraded from 10 to 11, maintaining the rest of variables static, it stopped working.

I can't do anything with:

  • Discover Media PQ VW device as it can't be upgraded anymore.
  • Android 11 won't be downgraded, and the only possibilities have already been tested and didn't work: changing the AVRCP active version.

So what it only has the chance of changing something is the Poweramp app: I understand that changing the code will help "understand" the new Android 11 + BT version protocol in order to get to fucntion the browse feature within VW device via BT again...

I wish some Poweramp developer be helping me with this...

@Guille Fernández García See my post above. The problem is outside player, and you can confirm this by checking in e.g. youtube music if it allows to navigate library there.

On Android the bluetooth stack including avrcp is implemented by the system bluetooth app, players or other app talk to that via standard APIs, so there is usually no bluetooth related code in players at all (outside the bluetooth parameters detection in Poweramp).

Thanks for your response.

The thing is Youtube Music has never allowed me to browse music through VW device, even with Android 10 version. The only app that I was able to browse with was Google Play Music and Poweramp, within Android 10 and previous Android versions, but now with Android 11, this app has dissapeared and I can't install it anymore, even from another source instead of Google Play Store I can download it, but it can't be installed.

About your last comment, it makes sense...I am starting to think that it is what you say: a specific problem of the system bluetooth protocol/app of this particular version of Android 11 for the OnePlus6.

So getting to this point: do you think whether there is a way to change this system bluetooth protocol/app to make it work? In a certain way, I have been thinking that maybe the Google Play Music app was the responsible of the well functioning of it...I will try to find the way to install it in Android 11.
