If this happens with the screen on and PA in the foreground, it sounds like your storage is perhaps not reading fast enough (try increasing the audio buffer).

If it happens with the screen off, there is most likely some optimisation feature on your device that is limiting Poweramp's processing ability (e.g. Android battery optimiser / power saver).
