tangotonyb
I use Poweramp on an android in-car system. Until today, the display has always shown full screen album art with the player controls underneath and the menu bar superimposed and semi-transparent in the top right hand corner of the screen. Today I started it and it started doing an initialization routine which I haven't seen before. Then it gave me a completely different layout that looks quite odd, with the album art on the LH half of the screen and on the RHS a set of enormous player controls. It also wiped all my playlists (which I'm not fussed about). I've spent ages playing with the settings to try to get the fullscreen albumart back, but no joy. Anyone any idea what's happened and how I can fix it? NB I did wonder if it had just updated, but according to Google Play it last updated on 6th April and I've used it a lot since then, but only today did it change. MotleyG
Did you have a third party skin before? I don't think the default ones show album art in full screen on the now.playing screen in portrait or landscape modes.
andrewilley
What version of PA are you running? I'm not aware of any way to run PA with full-screen album art. If your device is landscape, it should look something a bit like this - somewhat dependent on your skin settings, this is pretty much default but with Pro Buttons enabled: As you said you saw it initialising, I wonder if for some reason your settings did not save last time you turned off the power? tangotonyb
No third party skin. It was just default settings before. Yes that's what it looks like now. It's awful.
andrewilley
You can move the labels over to above the button area (Skin> Alternate Layout) and disable the 'thumbs' and the three-dots menu icon, but that's basically how it's meant to look by default. A 'semi-transparent menu bar' near the top of the screen sounds a bit like the old PA v2, but that hasn't been current for about 5 years. PA v3 has never had a menu bar at the top of the screen. tangotonyb
This is the paid version incidentally - don't know if that makes any difference. Perhaps describing it as fullscreen is incorrect. Screen is landscape - the artwork was centred and filled the screen vertically with a very narrow strip left at the bottom for the player controls which were small and there was a line running across the screen representing the track - you could swipe along it to skip forward/back. So can anyone shed any light on what's happened here?

andrewilley
The narrow stripe seekbar is achieved by Settings > Look and Feel > Skins > See4kbar Style > Simple. Andre

That screenshot was of Poweramp v2, which has been a legacy product for five years now. It is only meant to be still available for really old devices which still run on Android KitKat and below (i.e. less than Android 5.0). The final update to that was 6 April 2016 (you can still manually download it from https://forum.powerampapp.com/files/file/20-poweramp-2010-build-588-uniapk/ if you want, and then turn updates off) Andre

It was a product I paid for, and have been using perfectly happily until today when it would seem a major update has been pushed on me without my assent, in the process wiping all of my settings, playlists and ratings (grr to the latter - that was a lot of work). And to be fair, the new version looks like it was written by a bunch of monkeys - presumably they outsourced development to some cheap Chinese outfit? andrewilley
Personally insulting the sole developer of Poweramp will get you nowhere other than banned. As I said, the last release of PA v2 was five years ago, the fact that your device has only just got round to updating is remarkable and I have no idea why (maybe you turned Play Store updates off, or had no internet connection?). It should not have wiped playlists or ratings if updated gradually over time, but the sudden jump from build 588 to 900-ish would be somewhat unpredictable. As I said, it's more likely that something went wrong during a power-off and your database and/or Poweramp build became corrupted, which would have triggered either a re-install (default settings) or a database rescan. tangotonyb
I have no idea who this person is so how can I insult them? I'm saying the new player is a pile of garbage - it's pretty much unusable - maybe it looks better on phones, but on my car tablet, the text is blurred like you get when a vector font is shrunk like an image - nothing like in the image you posted above. And I'm pretty annoyed that for a major update like this, the user isn't warned that they'll lose their data and given the option to opt out. I'm also puzzled why it changed this afternoon, when the last update to the app is shown as April 6th - and wondering why it didn't update earlier if it's a 4 yr old version as I haven't changed the Google Play settings. Strange...

Most people aren't too happy when products aren't supported after purchase. As indicated above, you can still roll back to the V2 version that was left open for legacy use. Just make sure to turn off the auto update if you want to keep it that way.

You expect updates to fix bugs - anything destructive should ALWAYS be offered as an option to a user. andrewilley
The last Play Store update to PA v3 was 11 April, I have no idea where 6th April came from. What build do you currently have installed (check inPA Settings > About). Updates are provided by the Play Store, and if you have them enabled they should happen automatically. I have no idea why your device waited so long, but that's nothing to do with Poweramp. There have been literally dozens of updates since the first v3 alpha came out in January 2016. You can either try adjusting the settings options in v3 (there are a LOT of them!) or roll back to v2. Andre

But I suspect your own device corrupted the installation or database somehow, and hence the update was performed for the first time in five years, and the music library was rescanned if the old database was corrupt. andrewilley
It also might be worth trying other skins if you don't like the default v3 ones, such as this one which features a Car mode: Dynamic seekbar is optional by the way, you can opt for just the horizontal line version if you want.
