machine69
I just bought Poweramp a couple days ago & I was setting the eq up. I have the phone connected via AUX & limit off. The really low bass songs cut the music out for a bit & then it'll play then stop & this repeats. very annoying. My guess is the way I have the eq set up is some how clipping/limiting the the volume even with the limit off. Is there a way around this?
andrewilley
Music would not stop due to EQ settings, although excessive values could cause distortion of course. You could try increasing the audio buffer settings in case your device is not reading from storage quickly enough? Andre
machine69
Thanks I'll try that. It's strange because I'm using 2 - 15 subs & with Black Play Ex I never had this happen. No distortion the song just stop/cuts out then comes back on. I lowered the pre-amp setting & it seemed to help but still did it but not as much. andrewilley
As I said, stopping and starting won't be anything to do with EQ settings, it would be that PA is for some reason unable to read the file data quickly enough (for which increasing the buffer size might help). Does this happen at any time, or only when the screen has gone to sleep? If the latter, your device might be doing some power-saving activity which might cause this. machine69
It does it with the screen on & off & only plugged into a house stereo. If using a bluetooth speaker or in the vehicle it doesn't do this but my Bass setting are much lower because I'm not pushing 2-15's with 4-8's tweeters & mids. andrewilley
As I said, EQ won't be related. If you think it is, try turning the EQ to flat and see if that helps? Andre
Martin Shentall
@andrewilley @machine69 switch buffer to Maximum, iv never any issue and iv had various devices over the years and iv always used Poweramp on everyone of em, never any issue @ all!!! Poweramp is playing extreme full range and your amp is probably hitting subsonic bass that is maxing out the power supply. Dial back the gains, or at least turn on a subsonic filter if the amp has one.
andrewilley
Possibly I guess, but I'd have though the volume would need to be excessively loud for that to happen - not nice in a car! Does the PA display continue counting while these dropouts occur? I assumed you meant playback pauses for a short time, rather than just the audio feed cut out. machine69
@Martin Shentall I will try switching buffer to maximum. Thanks! @MotleyG I haven't had a problem with my car amp like this. It also happens with my home stereo. I'm def hitting low bass. I have no subsonic filter. I never needed one. @andrewilley It happens when the volume isn't that loud (but happens less) When it's loud & hitting hard then it happens a lot more. I never looked to see if the PA was counting. I did mean playback pauses for a short time then starts again.

If it happens in your car and at home, it is not likely an am problem and more likely related to the phone or app. However as @andrewilley has suggested, there isn't much the app can do based on this type of playback to cause this issue. Unless something is overdriving the DAC or output driver in your device significantly. If the time counter doesn't stop moving when the music cuts out, then I'd rule out the app too. What phone are you using, and what output are you using to feed your external home and car systems - a direct headphone jack, a headphone dongle, a USB DAC? Just checked it out last night & the counter does stop. I'm using a Samsung A20 using the AUX. Same way I used Back Player Ex. Only difference is Black Play Ex could hit as low with the Bass & as high with mids & treble.

I've never experienced this on any of my devices, thru headphone out or USB DAC.
andrewilley
And have you now tried setting the buffer to maximum? Does this happen with music on internal device memory, or only SD Card storage? Andre
maxmp
@machine69 I would suggest using limiter. If bass and volume is set to high value, Poweramp will limit resulting signal, so high volume and high bass (obviously) degrade overall quality - you want to be at flat equalization (or check Loud preset) for high volume. Not sure what counter is stopping and where. Song progress? It can’t be affected by equalizer.
machine69
@andrewilley I'm going to try setting the buffer tonight. I couldn't find it. I have all my music on an SD Card. I didn't try it on the internal memory. @andrewilley no just what the app has it set too. going to try & do that tonight. @maxmp I always leave the "Limiter" on. The only way I got it to do it less is set the "Pre-amp" lower. The EQ really can pack some Bass so I like to Max it to get my sub's going. I didn't want to install a complete system again with EQ, Active Crossover ect. The counter stopping is the song time. I noticed with songs that really got low Bass it stops the song. I don't see a buffer setting. I got version 8.7.4 off Google Play
andrewilley
Buffer setting is per output-method, in Settings > Audio > Output > (select output method you are using) > Cogwheel icon for your chosen device (e.g. Wired Headset/AUX). Try putting some song files on internal memory - and make sure that the test folder you use is enabled for scanning in Settings > Library > Music Folders. If those files work better, you may find it worthwhile copying everything off your memory card, re-format the card, and copy everything back. As has been said by a few people now, playback stopping and restarting randomly is not an EQ or volume related issue. Andre
