Issue for sorting songs for albums with more than 1000 tracks

Hello, 

I have noticed this "issue" (or not).

I have an album (which is a compilation of all songs from a rhythm game) which contains more than 1000 songs.

And as you can see on this screenshot:

 

For example, the track named "Cloud 9" is not the 9th track of the album, but the 1179th.

I also enabled the option to show the track number next to the title in the album and as you can see, it stops at 998 

So I presume in the application code, Max has set the max number of tracks in an album at 1000 (maybe i'm wrong).

Could you please look into this "issue", because I don't have this in an other music app (BlackPlayer EX).

@maxmp recently increased the maximum track count from 99 to 999 for reasons similar to yours. However remember that the CD red book actually only allows 99 tracks, so this is a 10x improvement from the industry standard. I guess time will tell if a further increase to this is possible.

For your track numbers, do you have these tagged individually in the metadata of each track? If this is simply the position in your playlist, it may not be maintained if you reorder the list. If not, and you are using more than 1000 songs, maybe a playlist is a better solution to keep all of your tracks in the order you prefer?

Yes the track number is in the file metadata.

Actually, the songs are ordered by their release date, so that's why this is useful for me.

Why not break it down into pseudo 'discs' ? So Tracks 1-100 would be set as Disc #1, then the next hundred tracks (currently 101-200) would now be tracks 1-100 of Disc #2, etc. That could cause them to be sorted correctly but without requiring a four-digit track space to be allocated for everyone. Playlists would be another option.

The ultimate thing to do would be to sort each track by their game release, I think I will do it, this would be easier for me, but it will take so much time ^^

This is where a batch tag editor (such as TagScanner on a PC) comes into its own. Load all 1000+ tracks into it and batch update the game release title as (for example) the Album Title tag. You can even write little processes to pick the wording up from folder names or filenames, or other tags.

There are several really good tag applications available that can help make this go really quickly for you. Updating tags to meet your specific needs can really make your library easy to navigate.

My preference is mp3tag, it has many useful functions that allow you to filter tracks in your library and make batch changes, and functions to do useful things like automatically add track and disc numbers, pull tag info from filenames, and more.

Wish me good luck, there are so many tracks, and some of them are not well sorted, so I have to do it manually...

Go through it in smaller chunks, it will be done before long. When you add new tracks, just make sure you take care of them right away.😉

Do the game titles relate to specific blocks of track numbers, or is there something in the file or folder name that you could use for batch search purposes?

If they are in blocks of track numbers, sort by Track# in TagScanner and then highlight each section that you want to change and Save with the new Album Title highlighted. Here's an example in my Singles folder (which normally does not have any Album titles). Say I wanted to change all of the tracks that happen to start with 'U' in order to give them an album title. Once the tracks are selected, I enter some title text in the box on the right and click on the 'Album' fieldname (so that line highlights too) and press Save. The new Album title then gets applied to all of the selected tracks.

 

There is also a 'Generate' function in which you can use all sorts of pattern matching with other tags or folder/filename contents to create specific new tags, all as an overall batch operation on all selected songs:
