"S" / "Sh" sound too sharp or loud

When I hear certain song that has a strong "s" or "sh" in lyrics, often times the sound is very loud or sharp that a long duration hearing could hurt my ears.

This could be due to poor audio quality, but is there a setting I can tweak to reduce this sound?

Yes, as @andrewilley said you could decrease the eq around 8 KHz.

Do you use headphones ? There are headphones that further increase this frequency, e.g. the Beyerdynamic DT 880.

I use cheap headset, but it usually good enough for me since I'm not that much of an audiophile.

You could try reducing the gain in the higher frequencies in the EQ.

"decrease the eq around 8 KHz."

Erm, it's the one with 8K underneath it, immediately to the left of the one with 16K underneath.
