Poweramp v3 and external dac

Hi everybody. I would like to know how many of you have tested Poweramp on their android phone with external usb dacs and what you think of the end result. I went to a hi-fi exhibition last weekend with my phone and inear headphones to test this configuration, as I was considering to buy an external dac, small enough to carry with me for android and my windows laptop.

To my surprise I did notice some differences with external dacs (not all of them though) but imho the differences were not enough to justify the expense. I guess it's because PA upsamples tracks to whatever the internal dac is capable of so this upsampled sound is fed to the external dac and little remains to be improved.

I would like to know if you had similar experiences in the past and, if so, what was your impressions?

My phone is an LG G6 (not the + model I'm afraid) and my headphones are the Focal Sphear S.

P.S. I would love to try PA again once bit perfect output is enabled to see the differences,
