  1. That’s the thing. File Access Legacy Mode is greyed out now in the Play Store download. I can’t turn it off or on anymore.

Edit: Okay, it is working again! I'm just going to have to rely on the 965 download for awhile yet, unless Android figures out their stuff here eventually. I keep forgetting I have to select the "Music" folder under the File Legacy line!

  2. Looks like the problem has returned for me. I did a library rescan this morning to add some new playlists, and I got the following message in Settings once I couldn't play files anymore:

    • File Access Legacy Mode - Not Supported
    • This mode makes all storages directly accessible for a selection in the Music Folders dialog. This option is not supported on Android 13+for the Play app edition.

I believe the File Access button was working until today. I don't think I updated the Android version today, but did restart the phone before refreshing the library.

I downloaded the 965-uni version from the website, and even though it did install and scan the playlists/files with that button enabled, none of the songs will play.

    Device: S21 Ultra

    Android/One UI Version: 13/5.1

  3. Update: The music files finally show up after going through the "File Legacy" option properly. I went into the Library's music folders, as you said, and selected the "Music" folder again... just under Internal Storage "File Access Legacy Mode" instead of the second one listed, which was selected the first time I started the app.

I'm still unable to import the prior library/settings files though, which are located within that Music folder too. But the good news is that the files are showing up and playing again!

So both of you are experiencing the same thing - you can adjust the Settings=>Library=>Music Folders option to point to the folder or folders that contain your music (not to a root location) and you can grant access to them. Then songs are properly scanned into the Library - i.e. you can see all the Titles, Artists, Albums, song-durations, cover art, etc. But when you try to tap on any of those songs from a category list such as 'Folders' or 'All Songs', none of them will play? And you've also tried using File Access Legacy Mode?

And it was working fine before the Android 13 upgrade occurred? Have you both tried reverting Poweramp to its default (just-installed) options for Android 13, which could be done by deleting app data, and letting it re-scan? (I see @artacar has already done this)

What happens if you long-press on any song in the list and select Info/Tags, do you see the correct path details and tag info?

After I deleted the app (and data), I reinstalled and selected the usual Music folders. I'm not sure of the difference between that and the "root" location, but I chose the usual one like normal. I had tried using an alternate location earlier today, but it didn't fix the issue.

After Rescan, the # of folders/playlists/songs show up under the correct numbers. However, when I go to the song view, it does not list the artist name, album art or length of the tracks... just the song titles. When I try clicking on a song, it'll show the "Failed to Play File!" quote before going through a few songs the same way, and then automatically stopping.

The long-press appears to show the proper locations (mine would be something like "primary/Music/My CDs/Various Artists/(Album)/(Song).mp3"). Hitting the file folder icon next to it also brings me to the proper file location in the phone.

It was working perfectly fine before the Android 13 update. It was only after the update was implemented that the problems started.

The FIle Access Legacy Mode has been chosen, but does not work, unfortunately.

  5. Same boat here, as shown in this link. Library seems to read the files, and other players do play them properly, but Poweramp won't seem to for whatever reason.

I tried some older versions of Poweramp too, to see if that'd make a difference, but unfortunately not.

    Poweramp build number: build-945-bundle-play [945004-2d535bbf]

    Device model: Galaxy S21 Ultra

    Android version: 13 / One UI 5.0

  6. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear anything is working. I tried those options and the player still won't play any of the music. It does scan the music and playlists properly into the library pretty much every time, but it'll always show the "Failed to play file!" alert every time I try to actually play something.

Right now, I'm more concerned with just getting the songs to play again, as opposed to bringing on the old settings and streams back in.

  7. I just updated to One UI 5/Android 13 yesterday and am now running into the same issue. The legacy button doesn't appear to be working either, and I tried making sure the permissions and drive were all selected properly again.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program today, and I think it does have to do with some sort of root/folders issue, since I'm unable to import the old settings file into the new installation. It gives me the following error when I try to do that:

    Failed

.com.Android.externalstorage has no access to content ://media/extenal_primary/file/1000015933

Any ideas on what I can do here? I went to the App permissions and made sure it could read the Music folder, and granted folder access within the app. What exactly is it asking me to do here and how can I grant it within Android 13?

  8. Thanks for your patience. I just reviewed the three links again and was able to "solve" two of them. One was just missing the "c" in ".aac" at the end and now works properly! And the other was an m3u8 link, but I found an mp3 equivalent and am using that now.

Here is the third link I tried putting in. I have read the stuff about m3u8 links on here, but I find it odd that I was able to put these types of urls in Poweramp before, and those are still working properly. I'm not able to find a direct mp3 or such link for the below one at this time.

  9. Yesterday, I put in three new radio stream links for the player. Two of the three will not play any audio at all, and one of them will only playback audio in a stuttering fashion.

These links all appear to be accurate and will play properly on other music programs (ex. iTunes and an ipadOS stream player). I refreshed the library this afternoon and restarted the app and phone, to see if any of those things were a factor. But nothing seemed to work.

For what it's worth, all of the other streams that I had inputted long before this appear to be working properly.

Any ideas on what may be going on here? If I find out before then, I'll be sure to post what I did. Thanks in advance!

I use Poweramp and neutron both on Android and Windows. Poweramp of course limited to Android.  Neutron I own on iOS cuz I have owned iphones in the past and neutron is probably the single most useful music player to me on ios being an audiophile/bass head.  That said Neutron for iOS has zero competition...It does not miss a beat whatsoever from the Android version nor the Windows version.

Huh... Neutron looks a bit like old school Poweramp too!
