  1. Not sure what I can say further, clearly there is something about your system (either in settings or apps) that is conflicting for you. I too have a Galaxy A54 5G (latest Android 14 ROM) and the equalizer works fine with everything that I enable in the Known Players list (e.g. YouTube, Spotify, Samsung Music, Rocket Player, Podcast Addict - even just playing video files from the Gallery). That's either using the built-in speaker or via a USB-C DAC to 3.5mm headset. I don't have any other system audio enhancements enabled (Dolby, etc) apart from 'Change Step Volume' in Samsung Sound Assistant, which is set to 2.

I assume you've tried a clean uninstall and reinstall, without bring back any old settings for testing purposes?

  2. No, it's not doable for commercial music services. For music to be played in Poweramp (even from a playlist) it needs to be present in the local Music Library database, which clearly a track from Deezer, Spotify, etc will not be. If you can map your LAN-based storage location as a SMB/CIFS folder on your device, that can be added to your Poweramp Music Folders list and scanned into the Library (but be warned it could be very slow):

You can put streaming music sources into Playlists though (which will then be shown in the 'Streams' category in the Library). That also includes online MP3 or other audio files for which there is a specific playable URL path. For example https://freetestdata.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Free_Test_Data_500KB_MP3.mp3 could be added to PA's Library and/or played from a playlist.

There are feature requests to allow simpler playback of LAN-based storage (e.g. local NAS files) or from the user's online storage, but both are actually currently quite low down in the voting order. You can add your vote anyway (once your account has sufficient posts & membership time):

  3. @xTc2k  Even with the DUMP permission and extra Player Tracking, an app still has to notify the system that it is playing audio - for example Dropbox can play audio files, but when doing so it does not seem to announce itself as a media player (and does not appear in the media player notification pulldown).

You may also need to start audio playback before an app appears in the Known Players list (e.g. the system Gallery app is not there until you actually start playing a video clip with sound).

  4. @Masklin Yes, the problem here is that your sample files had a ReplayGain tag which had a value of zero. Thus Poweramp will apply that zero boost value as instructed (plus or minus the additional overall 'RG Preamp' setting in the RG Menu).

See my earlier post showing you the zero-value tag contents in your files, using MP3Tag, TagScanner, and as a raw binary dump:

  5. @Rogs There is a pretty extensive Feature Requests list for the Android version already, and as there is only one developer I can't see that he would be able to simply drop all that in order to write a whole new version for a new platform. There has been some talk of a cross-platform development tool, but again I suspect it would be a lot of work to port over to using that too. Someone recently asked for an XBox version too.

  6. Even if the Year tag is yyyy-mm-dd, Poweramp only parses the first four year digits when it saves the tag to its database.

There is a feature request to allow extended variants in the future though, you can vote for it here once you account is mature enough:

Using "sort" tags is also something that has been requested.

  7. @FunkyPants  Yes, there's a recent-user restriction on the voting system to stop people just rapidly creating new accounts and creating faked votes. You need two valid forum posts (which you now have) and 2+ days as a member in order to vote.

I'm sure the actual process of implementing simple %title%, %artist%, etc formatting strings, even with conditionally hidden "[ %content% ]", for the Title and Secondary lines would be fairly easy. However the one-shot migration process for transparently bringing over all sorts of diverse user preferences - such as 'Show Filename as Title', 'Album Artist Label for Tracks/Albums/Album Artist Tracks', 'Hide Unknown Album/Artist', etc - into such a system would probably be a lot more work. Max has always preferred to make any changes and new features as gentle as possible for existing users, to avoid an avalanche of "who moved my cheese" messages.

Max has been discussing creating add-on packages for Poweramp (for a one-off extra purchase price) and I have suggested that theming the contents of any such packages would be the most logical way forward. If he does that, an "Enhanced Player Screen Features" package would be a perfect first step in that direction - which could eventually include this feature, along with customisable control buttons, Hi-Res logo, A-B Repeat, etc.

  8. In the initial EQ screen, once you have set up your desired adjustments tap on the three-dots menu icon and select 'Save/Assign'. You can auto-assign the Preset for specific output modes, or for specific songs/albums/folders/etc, but in your case you'll probably want to leave all of those extra boxes unticked and just enter a descriptive name and tap 'Save'.

You'll then see your newly saved item in the Presets list. You can use the buttons at the top of the list to limit what is shown (if you only want to see certain types of preset in general use).

  9. Sounds like you've figured it out, but basically streaming radio stations are identified by a web address (URL) that broadcasts the content via a "shoutcast" style stream. That direct URL can either be entered into the 'Add URL' option in the Streams menu, or it can be included as an entry in a local M3U (or PLS) playlist file in a music storage folder on your device.

So for example a valid individual stream URL might look something like:

    http://media-ice.musicradio.com:80/HeartWestMids

While a playlist (M3U) file might contain several such URLs which have been grouped together for easy access - possibly with display titles if desired:

    #EXTM3U
    #EXTINF:0,Heart - West Midlands
    http://media-ice.musicradio.com:80/HeartWestMids
    #EXTINF:0,Greatest Hits Radio National
    http://edge-bauerall-01-gos2.sharp-stream.com/net2national.mp3?aw_0_1st.skey=1691534114

  10. You will need an internet connection for the "Verified and Stored" status, so best to leave it connected until that occurs. But if it drops and reconnects, or device reboots in the meantime, shouldn't be a problem.

  11. It may be that DVC is not functioning with high-res in your case, which can happen with some phone ROMs. It can also be dependent on the USB DAC itself - they are very definitely not all made equal; the Chi-Fi CX31993 or CS46L41 based units run rings around most of the ones on Amazon in my vicinity (such as Samsung's own adapter, which is terrible).

In some cases, you may prefer to use AAudio or AudioTrack outputs (which do support higher sample rates and bit depths on more recent Android ROMs). For example on my Samsung galaxy A54, the Experimental High-Res mode does not work at all, but AAudio is fine at 192kHz/24-bit with a CX31993-based adapter.
