problems after copying music to Poweramp

Recommended Posts

After I transfer my music from music bee to my micro sd card. I connect my sd card to my LG G3 and when I open power amp some of the songs in the albums are in a different category. My 2Pac album All Eyes on me. There are some songs that are not even part of the album. It says unknown artist and album. I do not know why that happens. Also, another problem I have is when I put artwork on one of my albums. Then when I transfer that to my micros sd card and open Poweramp, There is another picture. One last problem I have is when I put many photos on some of my songs and when I turn on Poweramp the songs have no artwork. I have the Breaking Bad songs in my computer. I put so many pictures on those songs for each season. When I turn on Poweramp none of the songs have the pictures. Also, I try to fast forward the songs and Poweramp skips to the next song. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? I thought it was the micro sd card. But when I bought a new one. The same thing happened.

These all sound like tagging issues to me, where the ID3 tags in the music files are not set correctly for some reason. Try using a batch tag editor program on your PC (I use TagScanner, but there are lots out there) and re-save any tracks where the tags don't seem correct, which should write the tags back in a more standard format.

As far as artwork goes, Poweramp only supports one cover image embedded within each music file, any others will be ignored. If you are using folders, you could also store a cover.jpg or folder.jpg file in the same folder as the album tracks, and that will be used for any tracks which don't have any embedded art. See http://support.powerampapp.com/knowledgebase/articles/323535-how-album-art-for-a-track-is-selected for more info on how cover art is handled.

For fast-forward, long-press on the >> button, if you only tap it then it will skip to the next track.

Thank you so much. Putting only one picture did help. But then I used the tag scanner and I do not know what to do with that. Still I have the same problems. I have a Jay Z album I only put one picture. The songs are there but in two parts. Same album but not together. One song is by itself with the picture. The other songs are next to that one with the rest of the songs and no picture. Another album I have five songs say untitled album and artist with no picture. While the rest of the songs have  the picture and the artist. i DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE TAG SCANNER CAN YOU HELP ME MORE PLEASE?

With your files on a PC, drag the music folder that you want to work on over to the TagScanner icon, and you should then see all the songs listed in TagScanner. In the 'Tag Editor' tab you can select the songs one by one and see if any have different Album title settings. Change any problem ones in the editor box on the right hand side, and press the Save button. If you want to just re-write all of the tags regardless, select all of the songs you want and press the Save button.

I'd suggest working with a backup of your music folder first, until you get the hang of the program.

I did do that. The songs have all the same album settings and artist. But when I look at the songs in the power amp, the same things happen. There are about five songs from one album that show up unknown artist and album with no picture. But the other songs are in tact. Then there is another album that has no picture with most of the songs. Then one song from that same album has the picture. They all have the same settings and I used the tag editor.

Curious! Could you share a couple of samples, one which works correctly in Poweramp and one which does not?

Andre

I look for my songs through albums in Poweramp. I have an Eminem album "The Eminem Show".  Everything is perfect. The songs are there and the album art is there. Then I have a Jay-z album "Volume 3". One song is in its own section with the album art. Then the rest of the songs are in another sections with no album art. Then there is a 2Pac album "All Eyes on Me". There are 27 songs on the album. But only 22 are fine. With the album art and the artist's name. The rest of the 5 are on an unknown list. It says unknown album and artist. I do not know why. But when I use tag scanner everything is fine there. I have the same album, album artist and artwork. Please help me.

I do not know why that is like that please help me.

I've already asked several times if you could supply some sample music files for checking to see if the problem can be reproduced (a few good and a few incorrect tracks) but all you seem to have posted via Dropbox is some screenshots.

So which site should I use to upload the good tracks and incorrect ones? Should I use you tube?

Dropbox should be fine, like you did the screenshots.

The above ones are the ones that when I put into power amp it says unknown album and artist. It has no picture of the album. But when I use tag editor everything is there. These are the incorrect ones.

The above song is a completely different set. This one has the artwork but only one song. It is in a different category than the rest of the songs from the same album. This one is incorrect. This one is by itself and the only have that has artwork.

These songs are from the previous set. They do not have the album artwork and they are in a different category of album that the previous set. They have no artwork. But album artist and artist are the same. These are also incorrect because they have no album artwork. But are in the same album category.

Thanks, I'll take a look when I get a chance. Incidentally, on the artwork front you could also check the preference options in the Settings > Album Art menu, and then delete any currently cached art (using the final option in that menu) and see if the embedded images now show correctly.

Oh, and I've just noticed that some of these are Apple-style .m4a files (you didn't mention that before). They may work, but I'd suggest using a more standard format such as MP3 for better compatibility. (I've had issues with some podcasts in M4A format not allowing reliable in-track navigation for example).

Well just a first quick observation, at least nine of your MP3s seem to have some strangeness in their tags (and no art) with older v1.1 tags (all four from the last group, and the five in the group immediately above the single file):

I'll do some more tests anyway and see what happens.

Andre

Did you find out anything?

As I said, group#1 are m4a files which don't always read reliably, better to use MP3s. In this case, they will play OK but no extended tags are picked up.

The Jay-Z ones have different Album titles in their tags (the four in group#6 have only ID3v1.1 tags and the name is "Vol.3 Life and Times of S.Cart", while the one file in group#5 on its own also has an ID3v2.3 tag and the name in that tag is "Vol.3 Life and Times of S.Carter")

The Group#4 ones have only ID3v1.1 tags and no embedded album art, and the album title is "Breaking Bad. Season 3 Soundtr", whereas group #3 has fuller ID3v2.3 tags, their title is "Breaking Bad. Season 3 Soundtrack", and they have embedded art. Also each track is by a different artist, which might confuse some views (such as 'By Artist') but that's to be expected with Various Artists collections until Album Artist tags are better supported.

I did what I suggested to you earlier, and re-saved the files using TagScanner (I just selected all the songs that you sent in the editor window and pressed Save) so they all have ID3v2.3 tags with matching Album titles and embedded art, and they all now group correctly in Album view (except for the M4A files, but as I've mentioned before I wouldn't guarantee anything much with M4A files at this point).

I see what you mean by the titles are sometimes different. I am using the tag scanner but I cannot save the ID3v1.1 tag when I try the edit the album artist or the album. I have a better understanding of the ID3v1.1 tags but I cannot edit them. I do not know why. Can you help me with the ID3v1.1 tags and how to edit them. Is that what I am supposed to do only? Just to match the ID3v1.1 tags with the ID3v2.3 tags?

I wouldn't worry about the v1 tags, they are only 128-bytes long and obsolete and can only store 30 characters in each field (hence your problem).

Set TagScanner to prefer APE or ID3v2 tags (using the little drop-down button in the top right) and set the save mode next to it to 'Auto', and when you save changes to either a single or batches of files, it will create updated v2 tags (for which you may still need to change those truncated Album entries) which will be used by Poweramp if present.

One tip for batch editing is to click on the tag's title-word (e.g. the word "Album") so it goes blue, and that will 'lock' the current contents of that box so they will overwrite that tag when you save multiple files. Give it a try on some sample files, once you get used to it it's pretty capable.

I did what you told me. The 2Pac album all eyes on me works fine. There are no errors with that one. The Jay Z album is fine also. I downloaded new albums for the Jay Z and 2pac. However, the breaking bad soundtrack season 3 is the same as before. I did what you told me but it does not work. I do not know what else to do. I still have the same problems as before. I went to tag scanner and did what you told me. And still the same problems. I just do not know what to do.

Also, when I use google play music, all the Breaking Bad soundtracks are in order. None of them are without photos or not aligned. This is also true with the music player that my LG G3 came with. However, power amp is the best one and is my favorite. So maybe in the future I will get some answers. But you did help me a lot. But if you find out anything please let me know. For now I will just have to accept it.

I really don't understand how you've got such a mishmash of files created for just one album, where did you download it from? Within the nine files you uploaded you've got at least four different MP3 encoders in use (LAME 3.96, LAME 3.97, FhG and Xing) and four different encoding bitrates (CBR 256k, 320k, 128k, and one VBR file). It's really not surprising you've got problems getting them all to match!

The main issue though is with the ID3v1.1 tags (which truncate album titles to 30 characters and don't support artwork) so some show a title of "Breaking Bad. Season 3 Soundtrack" while others show as "Breaking Bad. Season 3 Soundtr". The v2.3 tags should ideally take priority, but not all of them seem to.

Forcing a batch re-save of all of the files in TagSacnner (with those 'common' fields that you wish to keep exactly the same - Album and Picture - highlighted in blue before you save) fixes the problem for me though, and after doing that all nine of the files show with the right art and in a single 'Album' group (even if the actual files still in different test folders on the phone).

I downloaded the songs from youtube. The songs that I downloaded from torrents did not have all of the songs. That is why I had to download them from somewhere else.  Can you explain what I have to do with the breaking bad songs on tag scanner? And when to press the blue.
