Poweramp v3 - Next Beta Release Planned for April 2018   03/14/2018

As you may be aware, the Poweramp developer has been working hard on an updated material design user interface for Poweramp v3 which required a full ground-up rebuild of the code and is taking some time to get to a beta-test stage. See the forum thread for more details and to discuss, but it is currently hoped that the next Beta Test release will be ready for April 2018.

  1. Hello, I wanted to write a little about my experience of getting lyrics to display in Poweramp. If anyone has the same problems as me, maybe they'll find this through a search engine. I was trying to write Japanese lyrics to id3 tags in bulk on a Linux system. Firstly I found that there are a plethora of tag editors, but some don't include unicode support. I also wanted command line support to allow for bulk writing with a for loop. The tool that worked for me was eyeD3, which I downloaded via pip. It has an option to add lyrics from a text file, but I had some problems initially. This option writes to the USLT frame that is read by Poweramp. The USLT frame takes the "description" and "language" options, and I found that setting the language as Japanese resulted in the lyrics not being displayed. After that, running the "add lyrics" option without specifying description or language (so that it uses the default English) worked for me. Success!

Poweramp v3 (ALPHA-3 test builds 703 / 704) for standard (ARM-based) Android devices. Released: 16 April 2016 This is alpha version of upcoming major Poweramp release. Please make backup of your existing Poweramp app/settings/db before installation as you won't be able to rollback to Poweramp v2 without alpha uninstallation, causing settings to be lost. You can install it over your existing v2 installation (your purchase and settings will be carried over). At this time, only ARM processors are supported. We'll add Intel support for later beta builds. Min. supported Android: 4.1. Skins are disabled in alpha as UI is partially changed and there is no point in (re-)building skins now. Alpha-3: - added DVC support for Hi-Res Snapdragon 24-bit PCM variant (e.g. LG Gx/v10, HTC A9, etc.) - Hi-Res support for Sony Z3, Meizu 5 Pro, Lenovo Vibe X3 - Look and Feel / Status Bar/Notification / Notification Colors option to override non-standard ROM notification colors - mp3 vbr seeking improvements - 2 Hi-Res API variants (Sony Hi Res and Snapdragon 24-bit offload) for Sony Z5/P - option to always process/send album art (useful for smartwatches) - bt pause/resume polishing - scrobbling fixes, removed obsolete ScrobbleDroid support - album art downloading update - language selection fix - better current output device detection (wired headset vs bt) - other few small fixes
Poweramp. ---- Hello, I want to request transliteration of cyrillic ID3 tags via bluetooth feature, the problem is bad representation cyrillic tags on display of auto radio such as JVC KD-X50BT. Problem have 2 solutions: 1. Send tags in different from UTF-8 codepage. But I thing that is not possible, because the data are exchanged via bluetoth android application. 2. Transliterate cyrillic tags. Sincerely yours, Alexander. Poweramp is the Best.
  5. I have a samsung galaxy s3 and with my old sdhc cart everything was fine today i upgraded to a sandisk ultra micro sdxc 128gb and copied my 80gb music on it ALL mp3 files have perfect tags. everything from album cover to publisher. but the app wont read them properly. I got like 2000 songs that are listed as no artist and no album and everything is unknown. but like 9000 songs are listed correctly is this a problem of the sd cart or with the app or is the database size limited? would be nice to get a solution (btw: got the newest Poweramp version available)
  6. Hello everybody First of all - thanks for creating and maintaining such a great app. For me there is one big thing missing. I have a library >10k songs and use ID3 tags to keep everything consistent (rating, play count, last played, etc.), no player specific libraries. I konw that the request was brought to your attention more than 2 years ago. Yet, I could not find any progress on this one. Is there any information on how you plan (if ever) to implement this? Thank you and best regards quesst
  7. I am used to embedd lyrics with SYLT Edit by merging .lrc file with .mp3 file but could not able to open in Poweramp by simply going onto Menu>Lyrics>Auto>Show (Error is: No lyric tag found in the song) Please help how could i embedd to show directly on screen by clicking "Show Button" (also tell me which version is supported by Poweramp for lyrics among and for ID3 among ID3v1, ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.2, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4) .
  8. I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not, but after opening an album from my music library on Poweramp I noticed the tags for title were all replaced by lots of chinese characters. It's not the first time this happened. The same thing happened some 6 months ago but I didn't give much attention to it. And since then, phone model, ROM, Android version and Poweramp version all changed. I've searched within the files where these characters came from but couldn't find a thing. Everywhere I looked the tags were with the title displayed in english as it should. But only in Poweramp I get the chinese characters. I've already tried changing the metadata charset to UTF-8 for the files, I've tried rewriting the tags on foobar2000, I've disabled ID3v1 tags but nothing worked. This is where I first encountered the problem: http://i.imgur.com/BnmubCk.png Tags seen in Poweramp: http://i.imgur.com/BIR7UML.png The files seen in Windows: http://i.imgur.com/qTMJiEc.jpg Tags seen in Windows: http://i.imgur.com/G9AeuDR.jpg Tags in foobar2000: http://i.imgur.com/3EFKj6C.jpg Tags in Mp3tag: http://i.imgur.com/1btwxMD.jpg PS: I found a way to 'fix' this. I'd have to re-edit every single file with the tags. e.g. change title from "Scarlet Devil" to "Scarlet Dev", then change it again to "Scarlet Devil". That's what I did to make the album title be displayed correctly, but doing this with titles would imply me changing ~200 files one by one.
  9. Poweramp V 2.0.9 558 play Samsung S4 mini 4.2.2 The sorting of albums appears problematic. On windows 7 explorer my files are tagged by Album, Title, Album Artist, etc... However, when I use Poweramp and select Album, I see like 60 songs sorted as individual albums by the "Title" tag instead of the "album" tag shown in windows (i.e. Poweramp thinks the "title" tag is the "album" tag). On windows, using windows media player or winamp, have never had this problem. Accordingly, instead of having 1 album with 60 tracks I have 60 albums with 1 track. Not very suitable for searching. All those tracks are in 1 folder and I am searching by library and not folders. FYI, some albums are correct and sorted properly but others are not. FIGURED IT OUT - SOME FILES TRANSFERRED INCORRECTLY AND DID NOT HAVE PROPER TAGS.
  10. I submitted this bug using the Google Forms, but given the scarcity of the fields, I'm re-posting here with more details, in hope someone with the same issue has some clues. So I have this album with plenty of different art for most of the songs, and very strangely PA does not want to display the album art it is supposed to. Here's an idea of the different art for each song for the first part of the album: Note that the behavior I will describe here is mostly only on this album, I can't recall having seen it on other albums with similarly embedded art for each song (but not 100% sure about that, it's been a very long time I have noticed this issue and am only reporting it now). My Poweramp settings as regards the art display are these: What may be of interest or peculiar about my setting is: 1) Many of my ID3 tags content are using UNICODE (Japanese) 2) The album content itself is split among two folders (CD1 and CD2), but all the mp3 files in both folders share the same album name. Interestingly when it comes to pick a random picture, PA takes it in either of the folders indistinctly. 3) The embedded art files are using either jpeg OR png (this actually cause a side effect with VLC player) 4) Running PA 2.0.9 build 555 on CyanoGen Mod 11 (Kitkat 4.4), Samsung Galaxy S3 As for the actual behavior, here it is: Say I want to play the first song on the album: Then if I tap the song name to have it displayed in full screen, I have the wrong art. The art displayed above comes from an other song actually in folder CD2 while this song is in folder CD1. I don't have any jpeg file roaming in my mp3 folders so I have no idea why PA has been choosing this art rather than the one for the first song of the album. Now, if I press my android screen for a few sec, the PA UI provides me with the art selection pop-up: And the "530x530 Embed Album Art" is the correct picture ! This means that PA is properly reading the ID3 tag content but for an unknown reason display an other one. The other pictures below are coming from the Internet and are NOT in my mp3 files or folders (despite me not having selected the "download art" option). Don't be fooled by the picture down on the right of this screenshot above, it is NOT the one used by PA initially, it comes from the Internet (I can tell because not same cropping and size). Now the weirdness goes on if I select the proper picture (the one labeled "530x530 Embed Album Art" above), then this picture will be used for all the other songs on this album instead of the one arbitrarily chosen by PA first, and each time I chose a picture this way, PA will ignore the songs embedded pictures and instead use it (at this point, it *may* be a feature I'm not sure). But this is not all, there are a few songs in the album not behaving this way !! These 5 songs share a common property: the Artist ID3 tag is "GUMI" instead of "初音ミク" (Miku Hatsune). This is why I suspect that whatever this bug is, there is maybe something to do with UNICODE, though I tried with other albums having a mix of artist names using Latin and UNICODE character sets without this issue... If anyone wants to fiddle with this issue or need some songs with UNICODE tags, I put the whole CD1 folder shown above available for download here: http://goo.gl/IeJ0Dr
  11. On older versions of Poweramp I was able to use the generes as i currently have them saved on their id3 tags, such as the following 3 examples: - Garage / Psychodelic / 60's / Classic - Rock - Speed / Classic / Power / Heavy - Metal - Death / Black / Thrash - Metal Right now when I synchronize the songs the tags are now all separated, the above will have multiple tags such as - Garage - Psychodelic - 60's - Classic - Rock - Speed - Power - Heavy - Metal Was anything changed on this section? I still have older songs sorted out the right way, showing a single genere tag with multiple descriptions, instead of them being separated.. any ideas? The tags still remain the same on the songs, so that doesn't change on the tag, but it seems the program separates it now.
  12. Who actually uses the comment field in the ID3 tags of songs? Perhaps no one Who has at least once lost a playlist of theirs that they spent a lot of time and effort creating? Perhaps everyone Who would like to have a song permanently remember which playlist it was a part of? Certainly everyone This is what this feature intends to achieve, via "tags" i.e. comment boxes Message for Poweramp team: I have yet to get an outside opinion on this, but given how many people love categorizing and organizing their music, this feature may be ground-breaking. So it would be something to seriously consider. "Permanent Playlists" sounds attractive, and this concept is incredibly simple to implement. This is your entire music collection You type in a keyword such as "gym" and the list filters songs that have at least "gym" in its comment field You can add more keywords to make your list even more specific, this brings up songs that have "gym, crazy" in the comment field And the list can be made even more specific. Of course, the 3 results mean that there are only 3 songs with at least the following tags: gym, crazy, instrumental Comment fields are where these tags will be. These tags can be edited into the song by 1) via Poweramp itself (Max will need to enable comment field being edited. Will take a LONG while to tag your entire collection cause the tagging is one song at a time) Example: or 2) Using a software like MP3Tag on a computer or another ID3 editor app, and mass-tagging a bunch of songs' comment field. Example: (look at the left side comment box) Of course, there can be tons of other additions to this. The simplest edition: - All the Poweramp team/max needs to do is somehow make it able to search the comment field of a song. This can be enabled (so it doesn't interfere with normal searching) by first typing in [tags] (like in the picture) or [comment] or some other way/button. - Make each comment box of a song edit-able in the "Info/Tags" edit screen The best edition: The above two features... plus: - Comment filtering can be "Match only one tag," "Match any," "Match at least" etc - Songs can be multi-selected within Poweramp itself and then have one/two/ten tags apply to all of their comment fields The BEST part about this feature is it is permanent! Changing your phone/tablet/device? Factory resetting your phone? Categorizing your music into different folders? Transferring your music to another memory card? Changing the filename of a song? It won't matter! All your tags will still be saved permanently on the songs. Organize your music knowing you will never lose your "tags" i.e. playlists. Comments/Opinions/Questions/Criticism? PS: all images have been photoshopped to give an idea of the feature.
  13. Hi, I'd really appreciate being able to edit the tags of a whole folder / album in one single operation. IE. I've got a folder which contains an album but the files have no tags at all, it would be cool to be able to set the album name and artist on all the files in one go. Other example, on one of my albums, I have a spelling mistake in the artist's name (whichi it's not grouped with the other albums by the same artist), being able to batch change the name of the artist for this album would be great. This could be done by adding the option when long-tapping on a folder / album name. Cheers, F.
  14. I'd really love to be able to use my ratings with the app. They're all stored in an id3v2 tag RATING with values 1-5 and when I see the stars in Poweramp it saddens me they don't correspond. I'm assuming they currently are stored in a Poweramp settings file, it'd be great if there were an option to read them from the mp3 files themselves if they exist (or if option chosen).
  15. sorry if this is a retread im dealing with wimax which is so slow im not gettin whole pages loaded but what about addong a batch edit type feature? sonething to make moving songs into correct or new folders a bit easier. getting my 44gb collection on my phone sorted properly has been going at a turtle like speed lol also just kinda a cherry on top, ever consider like a generic diy skin theme type deal? sonething not too fancy but where people can change up colors and stuff on thevplayer themselves. seen alotvof peoplw on market conplaining to decs bout colors being off. dont care much myself but thonk tbere may be a buck to be made tbere
  16. Hi, Version 2.0 is awesome, however I really miss the ability to edit the comments field of id3 tags in my mp3 files. Kind regards, Fabrizio
  17. Hi, I would like to be able to search songs according to what's in their id3 tags. In particular, I use the comments field in id3 tags (which is not editable in Poweramp v2.0, by the way) to store my own tags and create (dynamically autogenerate on my pc, manually maintain on Poweramp so far) playlists based on them. Being able to filter on strings contained in comment field of id3 tags would be very useful to me. Thanks, Fabrizio
  18. I have a lot of older mp3 albums, missing id3 tags. i managed to find settings to display songs by filename in folder list, and also play them in correct order. now for my request, in the "player" view, the songs still appear as "unknown artist" and "unknown album". how about displaying the songtitle and album name for songs missing id3 tags. what would be really cool, would be a setting where you could switch to this view for all albums. somehow i prefer seing the filename before id3 tags
  19. Please add support for album artist in id3 thus solving the problem with mixed artist albums cluttering the artist list. Shouldn't be a problem in 2.0 since you added your own library scan, if i understood correctly? Thanks for a great player. Cheers
  20. Ok I got this problem and not sure how to fix not even sure if its a but. All my songs have Artist and song genre and what not. I use MP3Tag to do this. However when I load up my music folder in to my droid and then pull up Poweramp it will show a fews songs as Unknown Artist. However when I play the song it shows the album cover and artist. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
