LuvMusic Posted November 5, 2015 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Just got a new LG V10 running android 5.1.1. The LG V10 has a high-fi setting that uses an ESS DAC and amp. Poweramp does not seem to be able to access the ESS DAC. Can you help? Oh, and I'm using the most current copy of Poweramp that is available on Google Play. I'm going to get the V10 any day now but I'd prefer to continue to use Poweramp as it's got the best interface of all the android music players I've used. From what I'm reading above, I don't think you do. It means "Digital to Analog Converter". Every phone has one, and every application has to have the ability to send digital audio to it. If it doesn't then the listener would not hear anything. The V10 has a Reference Audiophile 32bit DAC as-well-as a standard 16bit crappy DAC. All we are asking is if you can also support the BETTER DAC. If your codecs can't support something that is HIGH-END then those codecs you are referring to are CRAPPY and I will be sure to let the community know. [sheesh, I wonder why I bother sometimes] Yes, it would be lovely to support every individual device's own custom hardware - and if Poweramp used the regular OS codecs and hooks for audio rendering then it probably would, as the LG kernel probably handles its own redirection - but as I have already said twice, PA uses its own audio engine and nothing extra has been coded for new specialist hardware in your particular choice of phone, of for USB DACs, etc. Maybe when PA v3 is released that may change, but I've just told you what the current situation is to avoid getting your hopes up needlessly as there are no new features planned for the v2.x branch of Poweramp, only essential bug fixes. Visa Declined Posted November 28, 2015 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Regardless of PA having access to the DAC or not, it is the best sounding and loudest music player available for the V10. I'm not shitting you when I say that I've tried every recognizable FLAC player in the Play Store, and while PA may be doing its own thing, it's still outputting through the ESS headphone amplifier, and it sounds incredible. Compare it to whatever other player you know of that utilizes the DAC, and I think it would be hard to argue that PA doesn't sound better. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My understanding is that a codec should output PCM which is subsequently handed to the device for playback.How do Poweramp's otherwise excellent codecs determine/limit which DACs can be used by the device? Other players' output can be routed to the ESS DAC in the V10 without being specifically coded for this phone. What prevents Poweramp from working with the DAC?And when I say Poweramp's codecs are excellent I really mean it. As another poster mentioned, it's a challenge to get this phone to sound any better than Poweramp makes it sound.It would be nice if we could pipe that quality output through the high-end DAC that came with the device. If you start listening to music with the LG V10 stock music player and then startup PA and play music, the ESS DAC is active and being used. However, if you get a notification while listening, the ESS DAC will be cutoff. This "trick" worked great while flying to Europe recently. However, not very practical for day-to-day use since I get regular notifications. BTW, while PA's codecs are excellent, there is still a noticeable improvement when using the ESS DAC. andrewilley Posted November 5, 2016 Share Posted November 5, 2016 You need to use the recent alpha-test releases of Poweramp v3 (build 700 and above) to access high-rez audio, and the LG V10 is one of the devices that should be supported.
