Play from external drive

I just down loaded trial version and trying to decide whether to buy. Have LOTS of lossless music on a portable hard drive that I'd like to play via my Android tablet. Poweramp doesn't seem to see the USB drive. Does this change when I buy? Or is there something else I need to do to do this? Works fine for music copied to tablet.y

I have been using Poweramp now for nearly two years on a Nexus 7 2013 ( Android 6.0.1)  and have the same problem. I have sent 2 messages and an email to support and only had one response with advice saying same as above. I would very much like to be able to select the folders on the plugged in USB blade -  but nothing on the blade is visible on Poweramp. I  have to use another app (File Manager) to copy files or folders into the Nexus memory in order to play them, or connect my Nexus to a PC and squirt them into the Nexus memory. I understood this might be fixed in version 3 but there is no sign of that in the new version features. It's a real pain as there is nowhere near enough internal memory in the Nexus to store all my music and Podcasts. Does anyone know of a solution? I think USB mount app might fix it, but the app is rooted which concerns me. Also - If I buy a more expensive tablet  Eg. Samsung Galaxy S2 will I have the same problem with the SD card not being seen by Poweramp?

Hi,

I have a 128gb connected to my android unit and it sees it ok. I did have to format the drive to fat32 for my android unit to see it, but since I have done this it been ok.

Hi Koush. If you mean settings/Storage & USB/Explore - no, it just shows folders with the heading "Internal storage". The only way I can see the usb is with Nexus Media Importer app  - that allows me to read/write/erase/copy files  and play some music formats. Strange - that app says it is not rooted, can do anything with the files but Poweramp cant even see them! If I need to mount the drive, do you know if that's possible without root? I cant see any app so far on play store that does not want root.

Cheers,   Ray

Hi,

If you use an app call ES File Explorer, see if it sees you external drive. If it does then PA should also see it. If it does not, try to format your drive fat32 or exfat and see if it see it. I had mine formatted to exfat and it would not see it, I have to format to fat32, used a program called Guiformat, it formats drives into fat32 that are bigger than 8gb, see     attached.  By the way, what is the make and model of the tablet, it might help us find specs that might tell what file format it reads.
