licence check failure when network not available

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was listening to Poweramp while on a subway, when the software suddenly decided that it needs to check the licence right that moment. There was no network connection available, so the check failed of course and Poweramp stopped working and it refused to work for the remainder of the ride, until I got back to the surface.

I've been using Poweramp for several years previously with no problems. Is this a new feature? If so, then it really isn't working. Please fix it or remove it. Poweramp is my favorite music player on Android, but if it can't work reliably when my phone has no signal, then I can't keep using it.

Poweramp version 2.0.9-build-564-play

Nexus 4

Android 4.4.4

Thanks in advance and best regards.

The same thing happened to me at a job where there was no reception. I was enjoying listening to music when all of a sudden my player stopped and I got the message that google play store could not verify license. Very upsetting after paying for this thing a couple years ago. It is my favorite music player but this cannot continue to happen.

Why, after all this time is there an issue? The license on my phone has already been paid for and verified, why does it need to be verified again? Please fix this. If my player stops again, I am going to be very upset...!!!!!!

For the official answer to these questions, please see http://support.powerampapp.com/knowledgebase/articles/323557-is-internet-connection-required. After it has been checked and approved once (during first 24 hours of use) it should NEVER be checked again unless Poweramp is reinstalled, system is reset, or ROM is updated.

If you have checked this, and your experience still differs from what should be happening, please repost here and/or email poweramp.maxmpz(at)gmail.com, clearly explaining that you have already read the FAQ and that Powermap is not behaving the way it should do.

I'm guessing an app update counts as a reinstall, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Anyway, if you perform an update then you must have a network connection at that time at least (unless you do it manually via an APK, but even then how would you download that without a network connection?)

The same problem occurs several times with my registered Poweramp.

Each time I update Poweramp or the Android OS, I immediately  play several mp3 with the network connection ON, just to be sure that Poweramp can check the license on goole play store. There is no message (no error, no confirmation) that the license is valid or not at that moment. But after some time, Poweramp stop playing mp3 because it cannot check the validty of the license. And of course, this always occurs when there is no network connection.
I think that it is related to a reset of the trial period. That could be the explanation : each time Poweramp is updated, the trial period is reset to 0 (even for registered Poweramp). Can you see if I'm right ?

I know that an OS update will trigger a re-authenticate. That's why I always play some mp3 while the internet connection is available.

But it seems that Poweramp does not immediately check for the validity of the license (or the licensing server does not respond).

The problem is that I don't know if the re-authentication is successful of not. There is no message, and there is no visible mark that the license is verified or not. I don't easily have an internet connection, and I surely cannot keep the internet connection for 24 hours. I hope you understand the problem.

I absolutely understand the problem, and a number of people have reported this issue occurring over the years. However all I can say is what has been stated by the dev, anything further would have to come from him I'm afraid. You could try emailing poweramp.maxmpz(at)gmail.com, or use the Get Support feature in the app, to get his attention.

I just came here looking for a topic about this problem. ^^

Right now it's working for me, but it happened numerous times to me already. I don't really know whether it always was after a app- or OS version upgrade, but it might be possible.

It would be cool if

a) I could force a license check

or

B) In case the license check required after a Poweramp or OS update fails it would display a notification that the player gets disabled if no successful license check is performed within 24 hours.

It really sucks if you leave for a day with your WiFi-only android Walkman and get your primary player app disabled after a few minutes of listening on the bus.

The same problem again. Android was updated last week. So, as I know that this is a condition for a license re-check of Poweramp, I played many mp3 with the network connexion ON. The status of the licence was "Licence verified (Google play store)". I played Poweramp for several hours and I checked several times if this status changed, but it doesn't change. So I think the verification was done successfully.
And suddenly, one week after, Poweramp says that it can't verify the licence (because I don't have an internet connexion at that moment) and refuse to play any mp3.
It's very frustrating !
Why Poweramp display "Licence verified" if it is not the case ? You can say that Poweramp needs 24h to perform the check of the licence. But I don't have an internet connection ON for 24h. So, when I have an available internet connection, I would like to perform manually the check with a button.
