      Poweramp v3 Project Update   04/24/2017

As you may be aware, the Poweramp developer has been working hard on an updated material design user interface for Poweramp v3 which required a full ground-up rebuild of the code and is taking some time to get to a beta-test stage. See the forum thread for more details and to discuss.

  1. I have noticed that since 703 update, the shuffle playlist feature only rotates about 100 songs out of the 2000+ I have. The algorithm either appears to be corrupted or has a very limited spectrum. I have tried: Rebooting the device Reshuffling the order Deleting/recreating playlist Other media players do not display this issue with the same playlists (played songs I had almost completely forgot about because of Poweramps's "shunning"). Was not able to resolve the issue. Anyone else experience this issue? Trying to determine if my issue is isolated to my device. My device: Verizon LG G4, Android 6.0
  2. In addition to my great many songs and albums for music, I also enjoy listening to audio books on a regular basis. The problem I find with a lot of music players is that they don't have an option to restrict certain albums or files while shuffling. If there was a way with Poweramp to accomplish this, it would make my life a lot easier. Just adding an option to flag certain restrict certain albums from playing while shuffling all my music. It's rather frustrating listening to my favorite tunes when all of a sudden I'm in the middle of Ben Hur. Currently I'm just using two different apps, this one for music, and another one for the audio books. I love all the functionality of Poweramp and the extra bells and whistles. There's no way I'm going to use another app for my music. Thanks for such a great program, Thag
  3. Hi there, new to the forums. Recently, I've been having an issue with Poweramp. Running Android 6.0.1 (Custom ENIGMA ROM) on a Samsung Galaxy J7 J700M. What it does, is I enable "Shuffle All Available Songs" to play my entire library; about 1500+ songs. Let's say I pause at track 54/1500. If I leave Poweramp idle for a while, or use another app for some time, when I come back to hear music, the track I left it at (54/1500), is suddenly 1/1500. That's strange, given I never had that problem before. It can't be the ROM I'm using, since I recently changed it and the one I used before had the same issue... Here are a few notes. Most of the time, if I leave said song on minute 3:43/4:00 (for a 4 minute long track), upon returning to Poweramp, the queue is still the same. The only thing that does is that the last track I leave, it becomes the start of the entire library. On other cases, it is a total random song, which also restarts the library playlist... TL;DR: If I pause Poweramp on a certain track and exit when having "Shuffle All Available Songs" enabled, upon returning in a while, the entire library playlist is restarted from track 1; this being the last song I heard before exiting Poweramp. Hopefully someone can give me more insight of the issue. Thanks.
  4. Hello fellow PA enthusiasts! Would someone kindly help me understand the different types of music shuffle? Say I've got four albums (1 through 4), and each of them has 10 songs (A through J), such that the first song on the first album is called "1A", the third song on the second album is called "2C", the last song on the last album is called "4F", and so on. "Shuffle all available songs" is pretty clear to me (i.e. play the songs randomly from all 40 of them, with no regard for what album a given song is on), as is "shuffle off" (play each song in order, then repeat with the next album, then the next, and so on). But how might "shuffle songs, lists in order" play them? And how might "shuffle lists, songs in order" play them? Finally, how might "shuffle songs, shuffle lists" play them? Also, for purposes of this discussion, how does a "list" (I assume that means "playlist") differ from an "album"? When figuring out how to shuffle things, does PA simply consider albums to be logically equivalent to lists, and vice-versa? Thanks to anyone who can help me to understand this. I sure wish that PA had a User Manual (with pictures!) Cheers, everyone!
  5. Hi Here's a suggestion for a new concept I haven't seen yet on any music player : the ability to link songs... How it would work is that a user can link two songs, and then when music is playing in shuffle mode, the player would consider these two songs as only one... For example : in the album Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay, the first track "Mylo Xyloto" is clearly made to be listened before "Hurts Like Heaven"... Listened alone it looses a lot of interest So by linking these two, even in shuffle mode, "Mylo Xyloto" would always be played right before "Hurts Like Heaven" I don't know if I explained it clearly enough ^^ To implement it would not be that revolutionary, but still it would make shuffle mode more interesting and you'd be the first ones to do it :-)
  6. I would like to know if there is any way of turning off or deactivating shuffle . I'm a classical music afficionado and the shuffle function is a nightmare. Even if I manage to turn it off on one album or folder, it's on again with the next folder. Or if I try swiping to the next track, the software jumps to a random track in the middle of another folder. I appreciate that this request is in the minority but I would like to know if this is possible. Also apologies if there are instructions for this. I honestly cannot find them.
  7. Hi. I need a bit of help with the shuffle options. I'm trying to do something and I don't know how to do it, or even if it's possible. I'll explain my situation and what I need to do. I have a couple thousands songs, divided into folders according to the genre of the music. Some genres have substantially more songs than other genres, but when I play music, I want all genres to sound as balanced as possible. For example, the rock folder contains well over 500 songs, while the jazz folder contains only 60+ songs. This means that with "Shuffle all songs" option, Poweramp will play roughly 8 rock songs for each jazz song played, and that's not what I want. I played around with the various Shuffle options, but all of them do the same. I want to know if there's a way to achieve the following playing criteria. 1) Shuffle all songs inside each folder 2) Start playing music 3) Shuffle all folders 4) Select the next folder (shuffled in step 3) and play the next song from that folder (shuffle in step 1) 5) Repeat step 4 until one song from each folder has been played 6) Repeat steps 3 to 5 I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me how to do that or, at least, something as close as possible to that. Thank you very much in advance.
  8. Hi, I just installed Poweramp, and have it set to folder view > hierarchy. I would like to play (preferably shuffle) the contents of a single folder (or a folder containing other folders) and have playback stop when said contents have been played. Is this possible? (I have messed with settings as well as searched this site without finding what I'm looking for.) Currently, when I tell Poweramp to shuffle the contents of a folder, it does so, and then starts playing music from some other random folder. The only workaround(s) that I'm seeing is either to use the sleep timer (I haven't used it yet but I would assume this is something that stops playback after a set period of time) or to create a playlist of a folder's contents, assuming Poweramp stops playback when the contents of a playlist have been played. Neither of these options are ideal, and I would assume there is a way to do what I'm trying to do. Help!
  9. Version 703/704

Poweramp v3 (ALPHA-3 test builds 703 / 704) for standard (ARM-based) Android devices. Released: 16 April 2016 This is alpha version of upcoming major Poweramp release. Please make backup of your existing Poweramp app/settings/db before installation as you won't be able to rollback to Poweramp v2 without alpha uninstallation, causing settings to be lost. You can install it over your existing v2 installation (your purchase and settings will be carried over). At this time, only ARM processors are supported. We'll add Intel support for later beta builds. Min. supported Android: 4.1. Skins are disabled in alpha as UI is partially changed and there is no point in (re-)building skins now. Alpha-3: - added DVC support for Hi-Res Snapdragon 24-bit PCM variant (e.g. LG Gx/v10, HTC A9, etc.) - Hi-Res support for Sony Z3, Meizu 5 Pro, Lenovo Vibe X3 - Look and Feel / Status Bar/Notification / Notification Colors option to override non-standard ROM notification colors - mp3 vbr seeking improvements - 2 Hi-Res API variants (Sony Hi Res and Snapdragon 24-bit offload) for Sony Z5/P - option to always process/send album art (useful for smartwatches) - bt pause/resume polishing - scrobbling fixes, removed obsolete ScrobbleDroid support - album art downloading update - language selection fix - better current output device detection (wired headset vs bt) - other few small fixes
  10. Is there a way I can shuffle full albums? As in, an entire album will play from start to finish, then randomly another album plays from start to finish, and so on...
  11. Or something to the effect where I can turn shuffle all on/off utilizing double/triple/long clicks of volume up or down. The lock screen is ok but way too busy for me to take my eyes off the road when I stumble on a good album via shuffle and want to listen to the rest of it.
  12. I think it would be great to be able to go back to the shuffle list from where it was interrupted. Example, I am at number 150 out of 1000 tracks being shuffled and I want to listen to a certain album, when I have listened to the said album, return to the shuffled tracks without the chance of any previous tracks being played. Thanks.
  13. There are three very big problems wih Poweramp that make me search for an alternative. 1. Next song I open my playlist, select a song and play it. I listen to a few songs, then comes the song I don't like. I move forward a few songs until I find the song I like. It says the next song is AAA, and I don't like it, so i change the shuffle a few times, until I find the next song I like. However, when the current song ends, the next song is totally random, and not the one I chose as next song. And it happens almost everytime when I change songs with shuffle. Why does it happen, why don't you fix it? If it says the next song is AAA then play AAA. 2. Shuffle some stuff, some other stuff in order WTF is with this options? If I am in the playlist, I want to shuffle that playlist. If I choose an artist, I want to shuffle that artist. Why the hell is there a million shuffle options? At least give a choice in settings to select if we want all these complicated shuffles or just a simple shuffle to shuffle only where I am currently. I have been using Poweramp for more then a month and still have no idea what is the difference between shuffles (and I don't care honestly, I want just one simple shuffle) 3. Most played Song gets a +1 even if just scroll through it. So I go through ten songs until I find one that I want to listen, and all ten songs are marked as if I listened to them. Make a song marked as listened only if I listened 90% of it, or something like that
  14. I apologize if this question has been asked/answered before. So, I just bought Poweramp and I'm wondering if there might be some option I'm missing with shuffle. When I listen to music I tend to shuffle my entire library, and skip around a lot. Sometimes I don't decide to listen to a song until after I've skipped past it... but when I tested it on my way to work today it seemed that Poweramp's shuffle doesn't allow you to return to previous songs, instead making both the 'skip forward' and 'skip back' buttons into shuffle buttons. I hate this. It makes the whole listening experience frustrating for me because I can't go back, or re-listen to a song that's just passed. If there isn't an option to change this, there definitely should be. As of now I'm wondering if this option exists and I've simply missed it. I'm going to keep using Poweramp either way (the default music player on my nexus doesn't recognize a good chunk of the songs I just put on it due I'm guessing to their file type/format), but I'd really love for this to be something I can change.
  15. I may not be understanding how playlists are supposed to work in Poweramp. My assumption is that if you start playing a song within a playlist (or select play when long-pressing a playlist) it should just play through the playlist. This isnt the case, however. As sokn as the current song ends, it goes to a random song anywhere in my entire music list. It does this regardless of what shuffle mode is selected. Ive tried every which way and various settinga and cant figure it out. For background, these playlists were created as m3u files on my PC in Winamp and loaded with the mp3s onto my SD card for importing into Poweramp. Poweramp read the arrangement of music just fine and read the playlist files, creating accurate playlists within the program. Now they dont play right, though. Any help?
  16. Hi, I am having some trouble with shuffling albums. What I want is to shuffle albums and, play the songs of the album in the right order, and when the album is finished for the player to automatically play the next album. What happens now is that when the album finishes the player stops. I cant figure out the right combination of buttons to press to get the behavior that I want. Thanks for any help offered.
  17. The built-in android music player (at least in android 4.2) has a party shuffle menu item from most screens that instantly started playing all songs in the library and shuffled them in a random order every time, so it never played the same song first everytime.
  18. Hey there, i like the idea of having different shuffle-modes, but i don't need them all, so it would be nice to have an option to disable non-used modes. would be a charmer! thx
  19. Hi there, Will it be possible to add an advanced shuffle option that will prevent a song from being played for an X amount of times in a certain period? I have a long list of songs, but it feels to me that only a small percentage of them get repeated over and over, while the rest are very rarely played. It would be great if there was a feature which plays a song 1 or 2 times (preferably configurable) in, say, a month (also preferably configurable) so songs would not get repeated so much and we will be able to hear all of our songs? Thanks!
  20. I have read similar threads on here but none seems to answer this problem. When I select random shuffle, that's shuffle all songs in all lists although there are quite a few random songs being selected fro a list of over 50 folders it seems to keep going back to half a dozen folders much more than thev others. After hundreds of hour s of listening it still has yet to visit a lot of the folders. I have updated the library's etc via the scan for music option. Any ideas?
  21. I have approx. 4,300 songs and use shuffle to play all randomly, but it is tiresome to hear Poweramp repeating the same songs most of the time. Any ideas how to avoid that? what criteria is used to shuffle?
  22. Hello, Here is my problem when using Poweramp (2.0.9 on Android 4.3 on a Sony Xperia Z1) : sometimes the currently playing list shuffles with no reason which is annoying. It especially happens when I decide to add a music to a PLAYLIST : for example the currently playing music is my 8th / 1143 and if I decide to add musics i liked in range 1/1143 to 7/1143 to a playlist like music 4/1143, then this musics switches with 8/1143 so I cannot add previous musics in the order they played. And sometimes it just shuffles really randomly, I mean with no action on Poweramp (maybe sometimes when using another app than Poweramp, but it should not change my playlist order in Poweramp I guess). As this ever been reported, is there a solution or fix ?
  23. Hi all. I am the owner of a HTC M8 and have been using Poweramp for ages. Recently I am experiencing FC issues with Poweramp. Whenever I try to edit, create or do anything with a playlist, the app force closes. When I press the shuffle button, the app force closes. It is getting to a point that Poweramp is virtually impossible to manage. I mostly listen to FLAC an am currently on ARHD 11.1 as my ROM. HAs anyone experienced similar issues or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? Tried reverting to old version, tried uninstalling and reinstalling and clearing all the caches countless times, all with similar results. Any input on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.....
  24. Power amp is great and has potential to be the best. I usually end up playing DJ via bluetooth and found this app called party player that allows for sms song requests to come in play and start a que. I like the app but I think if it were already integrated into power amp itself it might flow easier. I know itunes had something similar like party shuffle or something like that but Id love to see it here since I have no use for apple and its products anymore. This option would allow more users to take part in the music being played only thru power amp.
  25. If I repeatedly press the Shuffle icon on the player screen while a song is playing, it cycles through the following shuffle options: Off - I think I understand this one Shuffle All Available Songs - also clear Shuffle Songs, Lists In Order - ? Shuffle Lists, Songs in Order - ?? Shuffle Songs, Shuffle Lists - ??? If I long-press the shuffle icon, I am offered the following options from a pop-up menu: Shuffle Off - understood All - all available songs? Songs - what songs? Lists - what does it mean to shuffle lists? Lists/Songs - no idea I don't know what the difference is between these options, except for Off and Shuffle All Songs. Can someone explain?
