  1. An album artist's albums are currently sorted by alphabet. I think you should be able to change that to, for example, sorted by year. I'll attach a quick mockup.
  2. Tags / Metadata Metadata is extra information about a song, stored as hidden computer-readable data within an audio file. This is independent of the filename or folder location - the data is stored inside the file as individual embedded 'tags'. Some tags are technical specs such as encoding methods and duration, while others contain things like the Title of each song or are used organise your music into various categories for easier viewing and access - such as Albums, Artists, Genres, Years, etc. Some commonly used tags are: Song Title [TIT2 / TITLE] Artist [TPE1 / ARTIST] Album Title [TALB / ALBUM] Album Artist [TPE2 / ALBUMARTIST, or sometimes ALBUM ARTIST] Genre [TCON / GENRE] Track Number [TRCK / TRACKNUMBER] Disc Number for multi-disc sets [TPOS / DISCNUMBER] Year [TYER / DATE] Composer [TCOM / COMPOSER] Lyrics [USLT / LYRICS] Synchronised Lyrics [ SYLT / - ] Note: rarely used, timecoded lyrics are often encoded within the regular Lyrics tag Comment (not used by Poweramp, but can be displayed) [COMM / COMMENT] Length (ms) [TLEN] Replay Gain [TXXX:REPLAYGAIN_**** / REPLAYGAIN_****] Album Cover (image) [APIC / METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE] You can view any tags contained within a song file by long-pressing on the song title in a library list, or long-pressing on the cover artwork in the player screen, and selecting 'Info/Tags'. You can also edit some tags by then tapping 'Edit Tags'. For more in-depth editing, or changing groups of file contents at the same time, it would be better to utilise a full-featured batch tagging program such as TagScanner or MP3Tag on a PC, or AutoTagger on Android. Technical note: MP3 files usually use the ID3 tagging format (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3) while FLAC files use the Vorbis system (see https://www.xiph.org/vorbis/doc/v-comment.html). Both methods contain broadly the same information but encoded slightly differently, as annotated above - and in more detail in https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Tag_Mapping. APE is another, slightly less common, tagging method. Poweramp can read and use any of these tagging systems. Completely untagged files, or files where for some reason the tags cannot be read by the scanner, will be displayed using their filenames only, and you will need to organise them by their folder locations. What tags are needed to group a number of songs into one 'Album' An 'album' is merely a notional grouping of any songs within the Library that have the exact same Album and Album Artist tags - but which may still have different Artist tags. Should Album Artist tags be missing, Poweramp will fall back to trying to group songs into albums based on the Album and Artist tags instead - but often with mixed levels of success, as Artist names can vary track-by-track - such as featured artists, duets, compilations, etc. In these cases, it is vital that Album Artist tags are correctly assigned, using a common term such as "Various Artists", to ensure all the songs remain together. It's actually a good idea to always include an Album Artist tag anyway, even if the content happens to be the same as the track Artist.Poweramp will try to infer some other properties for an 'album' - such as the Year and Genre - but these concepts are based solely on looking at the constituent songs and picking a value from them. If those tags are not consistent throughout - e.g. if each track in a compilation album has a different Year value - then the overall value chosen may not be predictable. Multiple instances of one tag type - e.g. several Artists for one song From build 899 onward, Poweramp can separate and sort songs using multiple names - e.g. "Under Pressure" could be listed as being by "David Bowie ; Queen" and it would be shown in the Artist listing for David Bowie and also for Queen. This feature can be used for Artists, Album Artists, Composers, and Genres (e.g. a genre could be listed as "New Wave ; Electronic ; New Romantic"). You can even define your own symbols or words to be used as separators via PA Settings > Library > Scanner, but semicolon ";" , slash "/" or double-slash "//" are common ones. It's a good idea to avoid using commas or ampersands though, because of band names like "Earth, Wind & Fire", "Emerson, Lake & Palmer", etc. You can also specify certain phrases that you never want to be split - e.g. "AC/DC". If you don't wish to use this feature, simply leave the relevant options blank.
  3. I would like to request that I be able to sort my playlist by artist, then album (preferably album release year) then track number. If a 3-way sort is difficult to implement, then album and track number.
  4. Hello, I'd like to ask for a problem fix. I have couple of albums that have the same name and Poweramp seems to not differ them well. For example, Saxon's "Sacrifice" was released in 2013 (that's what metadata in audio files says) and Motörhead's "Sacrifice" was released in 1995. However, when looking at both bands' catalogues in "Artist" category, Motörhead's album appears way later than it should've been (I'm using release date order), and both album share the same covers. It also happens to different artists (Halford's/Venom's "Resurrection" for example). Is that something the app's creator could look into?
  5. I think I already discussed this a bit but wasn't worded as well. I was wondering if you could provide an option to have the app load only embedded album covers for individual tracks rather than taking one cover from a track on the same album and using it for all the songs on the album.
  6. With disk and other storage space plentiful and cheap, I decided to switch to a lossless audio format for all of my future ripping and downloads, and picked FLAC. (You're welcome to knock my choice if you want, but that's not the reason for this note.) Background info: I'm ripping CDs on a Win 7 machine and uploading to a Samsung Galaxy S3 (for now; the point is to have a file format that I can keep around for years and be able to play on just about any machine, now and in future). The Galaxy S3 is the Poweramp machine that's giving me trouble. I'm running V2.0.9, build 534, in paid mode. I downloaded dBpoweramp to create the FLAC files, ripped a Vivaldi CD, and uploaded to the S3. Poweramp refused to recognize the album or tracks, even though it has no trouble recognizing MP3 albums and displaying them in its library as soon as I transfer them. However, when I located the files in a file browser on the S3 and clicked on a track, the file browser offered to let me open the track in Poweramp (and five other players, of course) so I did, and Poweramp played the track just fine. Also, when I clicked on the Poweramp menu and then on Info/Tags, Poweramp displayed full metadata including the album name that it refuses to bring into its library even after multiple scans and full rescans. After some experimenting around, I discovered that I could get Poweramp to bring my FLAC album into its library list by going to the Android application manager, deleting ALL of Poweramp's data, and re-building my library listing (not the audio files) from scratch. (No, Poweramp's re-scan did NOT work.) You might think that, with one FLAC album now in my library, I wouldn't have the same trouble bringing in another one, but No, a second album didn't incorporate into the library until I did the Android application-lobotomy trick again. So, I can now build and use a library of FLAC albums but only at the cost of re-setting all of my options by hand after every addition. Yucko. One last thing to note: I use the Windows file browser to drag-n-drop the album (directory) from the PC to the S3. When I transfer the MP3 album, it just goes, but when I transfer the FLAC album, it asks me if I want to convert all of the files since my phone won't play FLAC files. (Well, it wouldn't if I didn't have Poweramp, but the transfer facility is kind of dumb.) So I say No, Don't Convert and it (presumably) transfers all of the files intact. The Poweramp metadata display confirms that they're FLACs, but if the transfer facility is also doing something to set the album up for cataloguing, it would be happening for the MP3s but not for the FLACs. So - Have I discovered a bug, or did I overlook some simple setting that would let those FLAC albums slither into my library without getting hung up? Is anyone else out there using FLAC files with a Galaxy S3, with or without trouble? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks! -- Glimmersdad
  7. So, I started using the app and it's amazing, really one of the best app on the market, in particular I love the album art automatic and manual finder. I'm a perfectionist and I love seeing all my songs with the correct cover so I'd like to make the change permanent with the possibility to embed the art with the file. I'm not and expert so I'm asking if it's a possible feature for the future.
  8. Often when I want to play all my songs by an artist, I want to hear them in the order they were released. In other words, I want to hear the 1983 album: track 1, track 2, track 3... followed by the 1985 album: track 1, track 2, track 3... etc. Unfortunately, when I sort All Artist Songs by year, the tracks on each album are sorted alphabetically within each year (album). Listening to an album in alphabetical order is nowhere near as useful as the intended track order, especially for concept albums or albums where songs fade into each other. I think I remember there being a setting that advanced to the next category at the end of the current one, so I could enable that and just press the play button on the artist home page instead of the All Artist Songs page. But my typical behavior with playlists is to restart the playlist when I get to the end, so I don't want that setting enabled globally. It would just be a heck of a lot easier if there were a "sort by album year" option like what I'm describing.
